I want to switch up my slowlane job, but have been getting a little bit of mixed opinions and feedback.

Currently I work as a Painter:

Pros
Decent pay
Cheap cost of living

Cons
Physically demanding
Live in a very rural area
Poor internet service

I have been wanting to get back into something marketing/sales related, move to a city and have taken a little interest in real estate. However, when I talked about it with one career consultant she advised against getting into real estate (I'm assuming due to what she had heard about the market). I talked with a second one and she seemed somewhat receptive to the idea. But, now she referred me to another "career expert." I meet them tomorrow.

Anyways, I'm turning here for some opinions from both people that are involved in real estate, as well as anyone that has made a move to a new area to try start a different career path.

Cheers!

Real estate is a pretty broad field. Are you talking about becoming a realtor that sells homes?

Honestly, I'm interested in almost anything pertaining to the industry. I thought about becoming a licensed agent, but if there is an easier entry point I'd take it. I'm applying for pretty much every opportunity I see.

Are you paying these people or is the advice free?

Free through my province.

After discussing it over with the career expert, it seems that it's currently tough for many real estate agents. She was very informative and gave me better insight than I expected. She mentioned other positions within the real estate space that may be a little more easier to get started in, such as a warranty manager. Real estate may be booming elsewhere, but based on the data she has seen around here, many real estate agents are seeking second jobs.

If real estate is cooling off...

...and people are fleeing...

Getting into real estate might be the smartest move of your life.

Real estate never goes bankrupt.

This is sound advice and something that I too think about.

Especially if the housing market crashes here soon.

I may start with a different job so I can comfortably afford to move here. The courses for becoming licensed will probably cost me $6k or more, so that may be something I look into next once I feel better established here.
