I've just read about a form builder tool called Tally. In 4 years, they've gained 140,000 users, reached $2m ARR this February with a team of 5, and are currently at $4m ARR.
The reason I posted this under Mindset is because I would have NEVER considered this as an option. It's actually a tool that I have all the technical capabilities of building. But when you think of online forms, you think Google Forms, right? It's free, everyone knows Google, so that would have been it for me, validation done, bad idea, onto the next. This isn't because of the 'someone else has already done it' mindset, but because Google Forms pretty much does everything you need it to do, or at least I thought it did. Obviously not, as 140k users wanted something more.
I wonder how many more opportunities out there that there are, that I'm just not seeing at all because of things like "Microsoft has a tool for that, Google has that, oh that'll just be done by AI next year anyway".
I have been rather blocked inside my own head this year. I'm glad I've moved on from the sitting down for hours thinking up ideas phase. I used to go to a scenic point near me and just sit on a bench for 2 hours trying to think of the golden idea. I now do more hands on digging, finding reviews, finding out more about myself and who/what I want to help, finding leads within my small network of people.
I wonder if it's just because I've been entrenched in the Slowlane for 10 years that I don't realise these kinds of opportunities, or I just lack some connection in my brain to find these opportunities. Of course they say the best ideas often look so simple when they're done, you wonder why you didn't do that.
Having that ability to spot opportunities like Tally must be a superpower!
