A fried of mine came to me and asked me if I wanted to be involved in his 'upcoming project'.
He's a puppeteer, and just wrapped an Off-Broadway production of Avenue Q. He's looking to start a video project, and came to me for help.
After hours talking with him. And he doesn't take my advice. His business model's all wrong, it's never going to work. He wants his first project to be a 90 minute TV movie to sell to TV networks.
My suggestion was to follow the footsteps of Sam Has 7 Friends (which was purchased by Michael Eisner btw) and release 1 minute short films so he can simultaneously get versed in film production, AND build a following you can leverage to get funding for the 90 minute production BEFORE you sink money into it.
He gives me 101 reasons why I'm wrong, and then asks "so will you help?"
BITCH! I just freakin helped! This project is going to crash in burn just like EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR OTHER PROJECTS because you ask me for advice marketing/shooting/producing the thing and then don't take my advice.
Very frustrating stuff. What's the point of asking me the best way to approach a problem if you're just going to throw the advice out the window and do what you planned on from the start?
Not wasting my time with him again.
