Acting As If: How to fake it until you become it with Greig Clark, College Pro Painters
I've only heard of College Pro Painters because Kimbal Musk (Elon's older brother) ran a franchise the summer before the brothers founded Zip2 which was sold to Compaq for a $300M dollars. This is a great story that hardly anyone knows (myself included) because he's a Canadian entrepreneur from fifty years ago. Greig started the company at age 17 to earn enough money to pay for college in 1971. Over the next twenty years, it grew to 500 franchises with 5,000 employees. All using university students with zero house painting or business skills.Acting As If: How to fake it until you become it with Greig Clark, College Pro Painters
Greig Clark uncovers how to overcome fear and doubt as a first-time entrepreneur, how to make the first sale, and how to set up the systems, processes, and cadence to grow your business.

It's a great example of entrepreneurial success showing that need and execution are the important bits. Technology, financing, business plans, all the rest are secondary. After running a small newspaper ad and handing out flyers with no results, Grieg knocked on about thirty doors to get his first house painting job. His pro painting partner disappeared before the first job was even booked. That's where he started.
