Hey forum,
I`ve got a question for you about scaling, TL; DR; How do you scale a model car business?
I know a guy that is making incredible model cars, very detailed in different scales (actual images of his work):
Here are some more pictures of his incredible work:
Unfortunately he hasnt been able to scale it or take back even a little of his time.
I asked him about the proccess and it usually takes him 3-4 days to produce a model car, from scratch to polished product.
If he really pushes himself he can make MAX 15 per month.
Their price offcourse reflects this, selling for hundrends of dollars, each custom made by hand.
Yesterday we spoke and he told me he is giving up on the model cars, just cant scale it.
Instead he`s moving to repainting real cars, fixing bumpers and other such detailing work, which I could see he is not at all excited by.
He already has this professional equipment for painting, 3D printers, knows how to work with plastic and leather etc.
So what do you think forum?
Is there any way to help him? Figure out how to scale the model car business?
He has a proven market need and has been living of the income from that business for a long time.
What can he do to make more than 15 cars per month?
Is it even possible to scale a "handmade" business?
I`m looking for feedback on his behalf, because he seemed like he has given up, and I hate to see that, I believe he can still make it work.
