For those of you that are into residential properties, I was wondering what type of materials you use in your homes/apartments? Any money saving tips out there?

For example:

Do you use vinyl flooring or ceramic tile or whatever else in your bathroom/kitchen/anywhere else(why did you make that choice)?
Do you lay down regular carpet or carpet tile(why did you make that choic)?
What type of carpet do you buy?
If you pay for water, do you have any type of low flow fixtures? If so, were they worth the investment?
Do you buy appliance new or used?
For those with many units, do you ever buy stuff in bulk or do you just buy it when you need it?
etc. etc.

I realize that it will vary depending on what the unit is(high quality condo downtown vs a building full of druggies) and where it is, but I am just curious to hear everyone's input.
