So, I'm finally being made redundant from my 9-5. It's been on the cards for a few years. I've been dragging it out so they pay me off instead of jumping ship.
Why now?
Well, the usual "cost cutting" bullshit. A competitor bought the business I work for a few years ago. We all knew it was going to happen, just a matter of time.
Still, it's not a nice process or feeling.
But I see it as a massive opportunity for me. Excited and petrified in equal measures.
It's been a balancing act for me this year, money wise. Trying to get rid of debt, pay for the big jobs on the house. Save up enough for the worst case. This, as I knew it was coming. Just 3-6 months earlier than I thought.
If the house didn't need work. I would be OK for at least 12 months. But it looks like I've got 6 months before things will look bleak and I'll have to start cashing in my modest investments.
It's not all doom and gloom.
At the start of the year, I launched my own Automation Agency. Yes, AI based, jumping on the bandwagon.
I come from a software background and spent 18+ years building automation and backend systems, so I've experience with that front.
Plus, every mofo is banging on about AI. Why shouldn't I cash in?
I've been able to make £6K since April, with £500 monthly retainers. Current projects are also worth another £2K in future work.
Also, think I'm figuring out the lead gen, as well as refining my offers. Niche down to focus on BPA for UK-based accountancy firms, and upping my prices.
Finally, business validation
I've been at "the game" for around 12 years. Launching all sorts of businesses. Mainly SaaS and mobile apps. All crashed and burned with little to no money made.
Oh, I've jumped on the bandwagon too, dropshipping, POD, all the bullshit.
Will it work out? Who knows.
I've never been great with pressure. Even at University, I was always ahead of the game, never waiting till the last minute to get an assignment done.
But that has got to change now.
I'm giving myself 4 months. September - December to make it work. To start making a shit ton of money.
Others are, why can't I?
Worst case, I will have to drive for Uber, deliver groceries, do whatever to pay the mortgage. Even do fractional work is big at the moment. Finally, if all else fails, get another soul sucking software job.
Why this post?
Well, to vent and to get things out of my head.
I saw a video the other day from Ali Abdaal, going through his top 5 business books. The Millionaire Fastlane made the top 5. This morning I started listening to the 10 year anniversary editiuon of the audiobook. To give me a kick up the arse and to make the most of this opportunity.
I've got some time to make it work. A business that has made money.
Plus, the safety net has been ripped out from under me.
Maybe that's what I've needed all along.
Now, I need to execute, to do the work, to become wealthly. To grab this chance of freedom before it's too late for me.
Hopefully, I'll be able to update you all on my journey.
And IT WILL be good news.
