I've been the type of guy to always wait until I was nearly sure of the outcome. That led to lots of overthinking, planning, market validation, etc. In 2025 I really dived into becoming an entrepreneur. I ended up pretty much not doing anything throughout the year, as I constantly delayed everything due to not knowing enough, not being sure enough of an idea, waiting for the right idea to fall into my lap, literally sitting at park benches thinking for an hour straight for that golden idea.
I joined this forum about 4 months ago and found that everyone here who I look up to are busy getting things done. They don't talk about doing things, they do it. Of course I read this in MJ's books too, and I put the book down and thought "Yes I'm going to join Team Producer right now", and then spend the next few months reading more books, watching more YouTube videos of "how to become an entrepreneur". One of the best words I've learnt from this forum is "Action Faking". I am the quintessential action faker.
So I set a super simple goal for 2026. Just do things. I don't have a business idea I'm working on at the moment, but instead of action faking, I've dived into doing something.
I was inspired by @Andy Black 's message of "Help someone". I have a good friend who runs a very small business of repairing/customising game consoles and the like for his local area. He's currently only on Facebook. He's run ads a couple of times on Facebook but to no great effect. I asked him if he wanted a website, and he enthusiastically said yes, he'd been thinking of building a Shopify website but is intimidated by it and doesn't have the time, he's just become a father again. So this week I built him a proof of concept, diving into just doing things (I've never done a Shopify website before, but I'm a software engineer so I figured it wouldn't be too complicated). He loves it, and wants me to properly implement it all for him.
It shouldn't be too much work, I reckon I can get it done in a couple weeks. I've mentioned to him that afterwards we could look into setting up a Google Business Profile for himself. He's got a few positive reviews from customers already, if we could convert his reviews to Google reviews, and then have a look at running some Google Ads, we could perhaps generate him a bit more traffic and hopefully more sales.
I'm doing this for free, as he's my friend and doesn't have the cash for hiring professional help. I figure doing this is benefitting him just as much as it benefits me too. I'm quite inspired by him to be honest, because he's quite the opposite of me when it comes to business. He just dived straight into opening up this business, we heard he was thinking about it, then just a few weeks later, he's already set up his business and has made money, gotten like 10 positive reviews etc. In the time he did all of that, I would have been finishing my 2nd book on advanced marketing for some reason. Action faking.
Thanks to @Antifragile for the awesome reply he made on a post that I've been thinking a lot on since. Action is how you uncover what the market’s begging for. Since writing that post I decided I wouldn't post again until I was actually doing something, not just wanting to.
And thanks to @MJ DeMarco of course!
Here's to joining Team Producer!
