I'm reading "Ultralearning: Master Hard Skills, Outsmart the Competition, and Accelerate Your Career" by Scott H. Young. This is one of the books recommended by @MJ DeMarco .
I am finding it very interesting, especially because it "deciphers" the elements that make up the learning process of individuals with above-average abilities in order to glean their secrets. I won't say more, but I absolutely recommend it. 4 out of 5 stars.
I found,at least in my opinion, one particular flaw,if you can call it that:
At one point, the author states that this method is not for everyone. This statement gave me the feeling of a method that works for some and does not work for others, and if you fall in the second group there is nothing you can do about it,sorry, you spent $20 to read a book about a method that cannot work for you.
It gave me that feeling. I would of course be happy to be proven wrong.

I read it a while back when MJ sent me the book after one of his raffles.

I still use many principles from the book to this day when I read, work, and write(eg. active recalling, direct learning, and association--retaining new information by associating with old ones). It's funny because back when I was in school, I used many of the things he wrote about to study for tests and other stuff that did not matter much in hindsight. I'd have to say though reading the book allowed me to verbalize concepts I used intuitively back then into intentional systems that allow me to efficiently learn nowadays.

It's funny you mention the disclaimer from the author, because I have an opposing POV. Just because it doesn't work for some people does not mean that they are doom or that the book is a waste. I believe almost all principles of learning when applied with slight modifications to fit the individual, especially when it comes down to the way you drill yourself, learn through application, and recall information, will yield some, if not significant, results.

So my thought here is that you must be willing to apply all of the principles without excuses(eg. I'm a special case... this might not work), and be honest if you are half-assing or that you've done your best. The answer to this will let you know if the principles need to be modified to fit your needs or you must put in more effort to see a better result.

I truly believe any book is like this. Most people can't (or won't) apply anything they read. Some people don't have what it takes, or they simply operate with a fixed-mindset. I believe anyone can change their circumstances, but it always starts in the mind.

Also diet and nutrition is very similar. Some people experience great results eating vegan, keto, paleo, etc -- and yet, the diets are wildly different. Experience varies based on the person.
