I sell test prep books on Amazon KDP for a specific niche: parents of children taking a cognitive ability test that grants access to specific academic benefits. It is similar to "gifted" testing, but specific to the country I serve.
Right now, Amazon is my only source of traffic.
I’m profitable, beating my top competitors, and selling a solid number of copies.
My Edge
I have a PhD background in Math and a passion for AI and coding and marketing, so I built my own tools.
While competitors just throw thousands of practice questions at parents, I offer granular diagnostics, lots of high value bonuses. My tools break down every micro-pattern so the parent knows exactly what their child needs to improve surgically, similar to have a tutor but for a fraction of the price.
Current Funnel
Since Amazon doesn't give you customer data, I am betting everything on getting them off the platform so I can build an email list.
Amazon Paperback -> QR Code inside the book.
Landing Page -> They get free diagnostics/bonuses in exchange for their email.
Upsell -> Once on the site, I sell extra test packs ($9.99 for 1, $24.99 for 3, $69.99 for 10).
This is working. I’m getting orders for extra tests just by redirecting book buyers, i think it's working because the quality is very high.
I’ve optimized the copy and graphics, and I’m setting up an email sequence to nurture these leads and sell them more over time (eventually aiming for a full e-learning platform).
The Problem
I feel like I’ve maxed out the traffic I can squeeze directly from Amazon, of course I will keep growing my catalogue, I am doing Amazon full time since years so I think i am in the top 3% of self-publishers.
To grow revenue outside amazon, I need to bring fresh eyes to my Amazon listings or directly to my website.
Current Marketing Efforts:
TikTok: I hired a VA to post content. Results are mixed so far.
Pinterest: This is my next target since the demographic matches (mothers managing their child's education).
SEO: Working on articles to drive traffic to the free tools.
The Question
If you were in my shoes, where would you look for the best "bang for your buck" to get new traffic?
I am considering Paid Ads (FB/Google), but I’m worried about the math.
Ticket size: Low ($19.99 book or $10–$70 digital upsells).
Margins: Healthy (60–65% profit margin on Amazon ops), so I have a budget to spend.
However, I hear that to be profitable with ads, you usually need a high-ticket backend product to cover high CPCs.
Can ads work with a low-ticket education product like this?
I’d love to hear how you guys would expand this if it were your business.
I hate showing my face so I'd greatly avoid it...
P.s. I used AI to fix the grammar since I am not a native English speaker but the context is right
