Police Station Property Value

Quick Question: Will a police station raise property value of the neighborhood? The area is not rough, but it is a little punkish. Just curious what it will do to the surrounding properties.

I'd think it would RAISE the values. It creates a deterrent for crime -- drugs, theft, prostitution, etc.

I'd say it depends somewhat on the neighborhood. If its a poorly lit area after dark and its located behind 3 seedy bars, then I would say it has little effect. If its a nicer area, things are decently kept, and decently lit after dark, then I'd say it could contribute to a higher property value. That said, the neighborhood matters far more.

What has real estate's performance been in the neighborhood? Is it close to bus lines, shopping, and entertainment? Are there nice hotels nearby? What do the neighboring properties look like? These are far more important to your bottom line.

This is my opinion for what its worth.
