Hey guys, I've been lurking for a couple of years and just now created an account.
I am a graduate student in an engineering field, currently working part at a firm that designs building systems. I am extremely blessed and fortunate to have received a full scholarship for my undergrad and graduate studies.
Thanks to my scholarship, my parents' lessons about personal finance, and my work part time through school, I am debt free, built an emergency fund, and have even began saving for retirement. I recognize that I am in a great situation, and am very thankful to the people who have helped me along my way. That being said, I am starting to realize that I am at a crossroads in my life.
I should finish school this April. Upon graduation, it is looking pretty likely that I will receive a full-time offer from the firm I am working at now. I expect this will be a solid starting salary- nothing extraordinary, but certainly a pretty nice starting salary.
What I'm starting to realize is how easily I could get trapped into working a 9-5 every day for 17 years, then all of the sudden realize I haven't done anything I've wanted to do in life.
I've had a couple online hustles going since I was in high school (a self-improvement blog, social media marketing, a YouTube channel) and I want to turn one of them into a full time gig. I would love to be able to travel the world as I build my brand. Another option is opening up my own building design firm, although that would be extremely difficult to do without more industry experience.
I joined the forum with hopes I can get a better sense of which direction I want to take my life and my business. I'm glad to be a part of the community! I think I can provide some value with some of the social media growth hacks I've learned. Looking forward to interacting with you all.
