Hey guys,
I wanted to share something that I've found had surprising results with myself, and it'd be cool to see if it does with anyone else.
Towards the beginning of the year and up until a month or two ago, life's felt a bit of a drag. Family illnesses, purchasing a home and the added financial burden drawing money away from my goals. Despite making some big steps towards freedom, after buying a house I actually felt more embedded in the slowlane than ever before. But in exchange, I'd never spend entire days arguing with real estate agents / landlords who'd gotten their licences from a box of cereal again.
I'd walk around the office either being told to cheer up (not that I was all too down, but so deep in thought that the level of awareness that leads you to keep a smile on your face had flown the coop) and when asked 'how are ya?' the typical response was 'meh not bad'..
One day after being asked, Jim responded 'oh that's good then, all we can hope for eh'. Which sent me into a frustrated spin. Just like that, the guy that had worked here for the last 10 years had unknowingly put it into perspective.
'Not Bad' is settling. 'Not bad' isn't 'good enough'. 'Not bad' is still 'Not good'. Not bad was to accept that where I was is adequate. Adequate leads to Jim..
I started reflecting and bringing in my plans to the nearer future and to make the effort over the coming week of really thinking about it and answering 'good' when asked. And actually believing it/making it the truth. Good because I had a plan, Good because I'd find a way. Within the first hour of the next week I genuinely felt like a weight was lifted off my back. Good was contageous. Good spread to those around me and importantly other aspects of my life. An idea presented itself to me which I've taken action on to give me a refreshed push in my business, and working silly hours for a company again feels like a short term affair. A week later I had gotten 2 leads from random conversations that came from 'good' and a third for some good stock. I looked at my web business and made some tweaks to ads and got a few more sales, my ads were more believable going by a friend.
Encourage, challange, whichever - but give it a try! It could be the self-induced high that motivates you not to hide from the next opportunity that pops up.. Don't get stuck with not bad..
