Just a heads up about a basic marketing technique that seems to trip up a lot of people:
I was emailed this today by the director of the Chamber of Commerce: FOX19.com and FOX19 News, weather, traffic, and sports for Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky | ViewPoint Professionals Announces British, Russians, French, and Germans Seek Refuge in the Pristine Mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico in the United State . He forwarded it to all of us saying how great it was that we had made the news, as well as how great our RE market it doing here. To me it was an obvious press release submitted by a local real estate firm, and not necessarily fact (I know it's not fact, because I know the market). I got to thinking that I bet there are many people out there who confuse a press release with fact, and that are making potentially bad investment choices because of them.
Basically a press release is something that anyone can write up (generally for their own business) and submit it to various press release sites. The media will pick it up and run with it, especially if it's a slow day in the local news. Press releases are great, but take them for what they are (advertising) until YOU are able to research further into what is really going on.
