Hey all,
Today I got kicked in the shins at work about 3x. That’s not a joke. I work in a group home for people with developmental disabilities. A dude I took care of literally got pissed off because he was falling asleep and I shut the door. He came out, pissed off and indignant that someone would shut the door to give him some peace. I’ve worked with this guy for about four years. He kicks. And it hurts. I’m 38, he’s in his twenties so it hurts me a lot worse. I have a lot of restraint. I can control myself. This dude has punched me square in the face and I didn’t retaliate.
But, I can’t take it no more. I can’t wipe his a$$ and get beat. I’ve worked with this guy off and on 5 years since 2015. I came back in 2021 because My assistant manager and manager said they needed a man to handle him.
I can’t be this guys punching bag anymore. In the three years I’ve been back…I’ve gotten a .40 raise. I work a minimum of 130 hours a pay period.
This isn’t the slow lane. This is I’m going to kill myself in the next couple years lane.
All I’ve known is caregiving and pumping gas (Oregon).
When I talked about dreams as a youngster everyone would talk about back up plans, because, “you probably won’t make it”.
I’ve done sales and graphic design on the side. I know I have potential. In fact, I’m doing sales calls for a coworker tomorrow who is less invested in his “business” than I am. I wrote the script and am using my day off to build his business. For me it’s practice and it feels fun. I’m just a third in The Millionaire Fastlane , but it’s lit a fire.
Like I said, I’m making sales calls off my phone for someone who barely cares…just to get the experience of rejection handling.
I’m 38. I want a business. I’ll make calls. Do emails. Learn whatever.
I’ll even do free work if it means I learn. I need a mentor. I can’t keep getting kicked and hurt. I need out. And I’ll do whatever to learn business. I’m not young…but a middle aged man with kicked shins is more motivated than a college kid. I also work 16 hours a day already. Any opportunity. I’m hungry.
