Hello! I'm entering a new chapter in my journey toward the fastlane. I feel there's still a long way to go, but I'm determined to keep pushing forward. Business development has become my passion, and as a fan of RPGs, I approach it as a personal game quest.
First, a quick recap of my recent projects:
I've been working on a SaaS platform, a very intuitive web app designed to manage operators, job assignments, and construction machinery. It includes a calendar view (day, week, month), automated notifications for operators about new assignments, and alerts when specific machinery is already booked. This was initially meant for my family's business, but they, along with most local companies here in Poland, still prefer to rely on pen and paper. Only one user has been using the app for a year, and while they offered to pay, it's not financially viable due to the cost of moving to a paid server and database. I've concluded it doesn’t solve a pressing enough need, and fighting for around 1000 PLN (roughly 250 USD) monthly isn’t worth it.
As a side project, I developed an MMORPG similar to Tibia, more for my enjoyment than financial gain. I wanted a break from business app programming and created something just for myself. The game has most of its mechanics ready, but I stopped at a point where I realized I didn't want it to look exactly like Tibia. Occasionally, I brainstorm about adding new story elements, fresh mechanics, etc., though nothing specific has crystallized yet. One idea is to incorporate a storyline involving building a personal farm, setting up defense towers against intruders, collecting resources, and more. I started posting in Facebook groups where different companies gather, introducing myself as a developer-entrepreneur and asking if they have any technical problems I could solve with an app or if there are any apps they currently use that frustrate them. So far, I’ve had one response from a company interested in a mini CRM system. Now I’m facing three questions:
a. Should I limit myself strictly to IT solutions? I don’t feel exceptionally skilled in other areas.
b. Would offering a % share be a good idea? That might make companies more willing to engage. Any thoughts?
c. Small, dedicated CRM solutions don’t seem ideal as SaaS, as different companies within a niche might have different processes. Wouldn’t it be better to propose a custom solution at a higher price?
- I noticed that many companies either don’t have websites or have outdated, non-responsive ones. I’m proficient with the Next.js framework, which is excellent for SEO (IMHO much better , faster and lighter than WordPress). Plus, a friend with a similar business told me he didn't pay a large, one-time fee for his website but instead pays a monthly subscription. This approach makes sense, as it’s less financially burdensome for small clients and provides me with steady income, especially since I can create a website in a day using my library of pre-built components and templates. I could also expand these services to include Google My Business and Google Ads setup, as I’ve learned a lot from @Andy Black.
