I’m making this thread to keep track of my journey, hold myself accountable, and get feedback from members of this forum. Two years from now, I want to have something to look back on similar to my other threads to see how far I’ve come in life.

Context on my journey: MINDSET - From low wage jobs to a Junior DevOps Engineer at a Fortunate 100 company within a few years: My journey | The Entrepreneur Discussion Forum: Talk Fastlane Business (thefastlaneforum.com)

Current situation
  • I live in a studio apartment and pay 1k for rent. Utilities are around $60-$70
  • 73k salary in the I.T Field at 24 years old
  • Skill wise, I feel that I do not have any technical skills.
    • I’ve been at my job learning the software we use and getting familiar with them to provide I.T Support but I do not have anything to fall back on.
    • My job title is an IT Analyst, but I do DevOps work.
  • $19,500 saved up
  • Dealing with health issues such as TMAU2, adrenal fatigue, low cholesterol, gut dysbiosis, low stomach acid,
  • Little social media presence
  • Was a sex addict for one year
  • Few friends & no family
  • No kids

08/26/2022 - 08/26/2024

  • Building my specialized skill set.

  • Earning IT certifications
    • I only have a high school diploma and would like to earn some certifications since I do not have a college degree
    • The company I work for will pay for them if I pass them.
    • I want to earn the AZ 900 as my second certification to demonstrate I have knowledge in cloud computing.
    • So far, I’ve earned my Google IT Certification back in February 2021.
  • Gain more life experience
    • As stated in The Great Race Rat Escape, you only find problems to solve when you go out and experience life instead of sitting at home all day.
    • There’s an app called MeetUp where you can find local meetups in your state and do various activities. This is a good way for me to get out of the apartment and live life.
    • I prefer my business to be an offline opportunity rather than an online one.
    • Also, I made $39.47 on Mercari by providing value to other people. I sold two items

  • Building an online presence

  • Getting my health in order
    • I’ve been working out with a personal trainer for four months (started 04/18/22). I’ve gotten a better understanding of how to lift and structure my workouts.
    • Unfortunately, I have a skinny fat body so the pounds I gain went to my belly (118.5 to 135.2). I’m back at square one where I want to trim my fat to get lean so I can build muscle with a lean foundation.
    • I’ve had massive chest pains where I felt I was going to have a heart attack and that’s not good. The stress has been killing me, so the gym helps with it.

My main focus during these two years will be building my skill set to gain technical skills. With these skills, I will have the ability to freelance and build a portfolio of projects.

The next thirty days
  1. Spend time learning web development and DevOps to build my skillset
  2. Stop wasting time on porn, doing nothing, feeling sorry for myself,
  3. Find hobbies I enjoy
  4. Be consistence and develop discipline
  5. Focus on my physical and mental health
  6. Seek therapy for my past trauma
  7. Sell valuable items to people via Mercari. I sold two already and want to keep the streak alive.

My meaning & purpose: I have a niece that I have not seen since 07/17/21. My family won’t let me see her and I know she misses me. The last letter she wrote to me was “I love you so much” before I walked out the door. She’s ten years old and at her age, I had no one to protect me or look up to.

I’m open to feedback and suggestions if you have any. Thank you for reading my thread

Seems like a well-thought out plan, however, I don't really see anything here about a Fastlane strategy. Baby steps are good, but 2 years of them?

You have a nice cushion already with a $70K+/year job, so that's a good foundation. Actually, a GREAT foundation.

My strategy is about building yourself a pyramid to make you king of your world.
If feel like your 2 year strategy is about building yourself a ladder and a scaffold, the safety measures for building that pyramid.

Make sense?

That said, congrats on really thinking about your life, and making a plan. That puts you ahead of 99% of the world.

Yes, I see what you mean. My two-year plan is more playing it safe than doing Entreprenurial work. This comes from my fear of being homeless because I do not have family to rely on. For example, if I need to move back in to save money or to get myself together, they will call the police on me for trespassing on their property. Also, if I were to lose my job, I feel I would have a hard to getting another one due to not having any skills to fall back on if I need to.

What's your opinion on my 1/5/10 Planasy below? I think my issue is my five year plan because I have trouble planning that phase out. The one and ten are easier to me.

Ten Year Plan - 08/27/2032
  • 40-million-dollar net worth
  • 15 million dollars in investments
  • 10-million-dollar fund for my niece (to help her get a head start in life)
  • A successful physical product business that I sold for 20 million dollars
  • A two-million-dollar home with no mortgage
  • I live in Virginia, North Carolina, or West Virginia
  • Ability to travel to Italy, Germany, Spain, and Europe without limits

Five Year Plan - 08/27/2027
  • Prototypes of my physical product
  • A growing business with significant profits
  • Learn and understand French, German, and Spanish

One Year Plan - 08/27/2023
  • The groundwork to start a product business
    • This would tie in with my goal to gain more life experience so I can better spot business opportunities.
    • In Unscripted , you mentioned the small wins strategy & engagement strategy. I've never started a business before, but I do not want to complicate things. I can start going to thrift stores to find items to sell on Mercaci that other people will find valuable. I
      • The hobbies I will take up are Muay Thai, community & environment events on Meetup such as feeding the cats, gardening, etc. I can use Google and find local events
      • I know this may not be Fastlane yet, but I will get there eventually
  • Purchase my passport
  • Building my specialized skillset (same as above).
  • $35,000 saved up

Sounds interesting, I look forward to more updates.

There is a Thread about reselling product on the forum. Should be a help for the start.

There's a serious gap here in your plan. In other words, you are GROSSLY underestimating what you can achieve in a few short years.

In 5 years you should have a product that is ALREADY for sale, and ALREADY making hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Especially if your Big Goal is 40M in net worth.

I would re-work the time-silos in your plan for more meaningful action in the short-term time frame. What you describe and plan above feels more like action faking and "someday" type of thinking. In 5 years all you have is a prototype? This is not good planning. It is not meaningful action.

Also, I'd suggest pre-registering for GoalSumo as it is the online version of a 1/5/10 Planasy and it will do a far better job of engineering a workable plan for you, better than the pencil and paper version of the 1/5/10 plan. We are a bit behind on its release, but I'm 95% sure we'll have it ready for beta release next month. We've already exceeded our beta-registrations by 100% but we are still taking them, of course, assuming that half of those who register, won't participate.

Hope to see you there.

I like that you're planning and making moves but this part confuses me. If you lose this job, why can't you get another job in I.T. that also pays $73k (or more) with similar responsibilities?

I used to think like this too but there was a moment when it clicked for me that having a job really isn't an issue because I can probably get another one with a similar pay and similar responsibilities if I can show the employer I've done it before.

Do you think it's your scarcity mindset making you think this, or am I missing something here?

Also, even if you think that you have no skills to fall back on, remember that most people have no idea how I.T. works and what that entails, so you might know more than you think you know. (Spotlight effect, maybe?)

I agree with MJ's point about Fastlane strategy, and I think you can afford you take more risks.

  • Was a sex addict for one year
  • Peu d'amis et pas de famille

26/08/2022 - 26/08/2024

I’m open to feedback and suggestions if you have any. Thank you for reading threamyd

Yes, it just seems to me someone who is deathly scared of risk, from the good paying job, to the "I need 5 years to get a prototype" when in 5 years, you should be well on your way to a Fastlane... @OutofPoverty trust yourself more, you can do much more than you give yourself credit for.

Thank you for your feedback. I reread the TGRRE , watched your YouTube videos, and listened to your audio books to better plan my 1/5/10 Planasy. I spent a few days working on it so what's your opinion on my new 1/5/10 Planasy?

The scarcity mindset is part of it. Another reason is my skillset. The work I do is similar to a sysadmin, but I feel it's not enough.

I believe the reason is my negative self-image of myself that is of a defeated person. I compare myself to other people on my team that have more skills than I do and feel inadequate. I have thoughts that creep in such as
  • You're not worthy of such achievement
  • Why try? just give up
  • You're not worth a damn
  • You're useless to society
These beliefs stem from my childhood trauma so I know I need therapy to overcome this. I bought a copy of "Personality isn't Permanent" and will reread Psycho-Cybernetics to work on my mental state

In terms of risk, you're right. I do not have any kids and my rent is 1k. If I budget properly, I can have $1700 to $2000 left over.

Much better, good job! Although 500 prototypes of a product seems likes a hard ask. What are you manufacturing? Or is that just a random number?

Good improvement. Honestly though, you could create the first prototype right now! You might even find that you have a working prototype in the first month or year, and are rocking and rolling with sales by year 2... wouldn't that be great!

In 5 years you could easily have made millions already.

Unless of course this "product" is some kind of space ship or asteroid mining, portal to another world.

Much better, good job! Although 500 prototypes of a product seems likes a hard ask. What are you manufacturing? Or is that just a random number?
It's a random number. The thought behind it was I would rather aim high and miss versus aim low and high.

In terms of manufacturing, I'm still working on it. I've been dealing with sweaty feet and other areas for months so I bought some products on Amazon to see if they work. If the product doesn't help improve problem then I have a potential opportunity.

Also, my apartment has alot of traffic noise so I bought some noise proof curtains to see if they can help with reducing the noise. If not, then I have another opportunity.

These beliefs stem from my childhood trauma so I know I need therapy to overcome this. I bought a copy of "Personality isn't Permanent" and will reread Psycho-Cybernetics to work on my mental state

Other books for combating negative, mental self-talk...

The Power of Now (Tolle)
The Untethered Soul (Singer)
The Surrender Experiment (Singer)
The Places that Scare You (Chodron)
Letting Go (Dawkins)
Happiness: Essential Mindfulness Practices (Thich Nhat Hanh)
