Cj here, hmmm been on my own since 20. Enjoyed simple living in 20's had a long term relationship that relationship ended in mid twenties. Single for a year found someone fell for, a year or so into that relationship found out lots of issues causing us to be evicted pretty much with in the month. Was my wake up call on how vulnerable was financially was. Should have been a red flag about relationship also.
Found Dave Ramsey after that, moved closer to work sold car cut back and paid off 10k of debt making around 30k in a year. Debt free just before 30, figured have rest of life now just to focus on increasing income. Saved emergency fund, saved money 5k then 10k with plan of buying a small property duplex, around 32. Live in Southern Ontario, when working out of debt could find properties with in an hour under 100k. I was looking but never found something that the numbers made sense. Closest got was putting an offer on a duplex, that ended up selling for 30k over my highest bid. Was no way it could cash flow from what i knew above price i offered.
33 put up ad to do handyman work. Based on advice of what would you do for free and charge people. So i finally did that, in second year now and although am not over the moon to do this kind of stuff it is bringing me $500-$1000 a month of extra work. Have read lots of books over the years, still lots to read.
34 ended that last relationship split what i had saved up to that time 40k which was right thing to do but hurt emotionally ending relationship and giving 20k when she never was on same page as me and never contributed or worked. Like I said red flag.
This last year been a write-off dated someone that turned out crazy, handyman side gig is getting somewhat steady referral repeat business now. Before figured if had handyman side gig to save would be fine to retire etc.. Came across Grant Cardone last year like his message. Came across this forum after re-reading Fastlane book again. Have been working at same place manual labor type job last 10years is a safety net thing i think.
Original plan was no plan, Then plan was to buy a house to save on rent, Then plan was to get into real estate (live in duplex to start) and save invest till had enough to live off passive.
35 now re-focusing took a while to put up intro post, not happy with where I am definitely feel the struggle. Grant says if can live on being broke shows creativity which can be transferred to wealth. Have no problem with hard work and hustle finding deals, but realize not going to get me where i want to be.
So plan going forward is to de-clutter, keep on with side gig. I wrote an e-book while back that can learn play with. As well as try some freelance online stuff, have been reading Cashvertising which need to finish at some point. As well as reading posts here. Also thinking i should maybe look into finding part time commission based sales gig. Need to solve bigger problems basically.
Rereading this last part sounds like a clusterfuck.
Plan is to get financial freedom.
