Lots of people here are trying to motivate themselves to work more and push themselves to put in more hours. Lots of admiration for hustle.
Well, I have a similar problem, but it's a mirrored image. I have this habit of overloading myself with work to the point where I have a near mental breakdown, which is where I'm at now. I'm struggling to keep it together, I feel like my mind is about to turn to dust.
I should also mention that I'm a part time college student as well, so it's not like I have all the time in the world. Often times my work cuts into my study time.
My plan was I was going to study today, but I also needed to do two pieces of work. It ended up taking way longer than I thought because my client gave me repeated misinformation, and what should have took one hour turned into three hours.
But it's not just this. I don't even really know how many hours I work, but usually it's the first thing I do when I wake up, and the last thing I do when I sleep. Considering I rarely go out, and I often stay awake for 17-18 hours, I can only imagine what the actual number is.
Is this partially my fault? Yeah totally. I take on more than I can handle because I'm addicted to making money.
That's not an exaggeration I realized. I am literally ADDICTED to making money. If I am not making money or don't have payments on the way, I feel agitated. When I see those payments deposited into my account, I feel a rush that makes the agitation go away.
Part of that might be because I know what it's like to not have money. When you go from not being able to afford eating out, and being financially dependent on your family to being more well-off then most of your peers, and actually supporting the people around you within two years, you "think, well shit, this works. I'm gonna keep doing it."
My other thing is my need for perfectionism. I'll spend hours on adobe illustrator redoing graphics that everyone else says looks good enough already, because I thought one contour was too bold at one point, or the colour is a shade off here.
I want to keep making money like I am, but for the sake of my physical health and sometimes fragile mental state, I cannot sustain this current system.
So, here's my plan:
F*cking outsource already: I do basically all my work myself. Part of that has to do with the fact that I'm a narcissistic douche who doesn't really think others are capable doing things to my level.
But also, maybe I'm trapped in this old mentality that I have to work for money, instead of building an effective system that brings money in.
But I got to get out of my bubble and start building more of a business and less of a job. Pretty much all my freelance work can be outsourced and as long as I stay on top of it, it can be done properly.
Know my limits: I need to acknowledge the painful truth that I myself can break from overwork, just like a machine would.
Take care of myself more: Lately I haven't been taking care of my body very well. Haven't been exercising much (or at all) and have been eating little to no fruits and vegetables. Today I did go out and get some sunshine, because I felt I needed some vitamin d, and bought a shitload of fruits and veggies from the store. It's a start anyways.
Also I need to make an appointment with my counselor. Haven't gone in a while.
Will keep updating and post anything new that comes to my mind.
Sorry this post isn't well structured, I'm just writing everything that comes to mind.
