Greetings everybody and thank you for opening my post.
46 years old guy from Toronto here with great and financially rewarding day job in the investment industry. I got the entrepreneurship bug a few years ago and it has never gone away. My motivation is to some extent intellectual (looking to learn and do new things), to gain full independence and the dream is to work (or not so much) online from some Caribbean island at some point. Another part of my motivation to become a successful full time entrepreneur is to have something to teach, demonstrate and pass on to my kids early on (girl 13 and boy 11), something to give THEM independence, satisfaction and happiness later on in their life, something that they would not get from school or anywhere else. Not that is anything wrong with school, I have done a lot of that too.
I started to read the book and will finish it next week as I am going down south in vacation with family. I have a plan to post more threads that may be of interest to this group when I am back and after I would have read the book.
Until then just wanted to quickly introduce myself, give you some highlights of my journey so far and give you headsup what to expect from me:
-born in Romania, engineering education, MBA and investment work experience for most part,
-took the plunge and immigrated to Canada in 2000 without knowing anybody and with a 7 months pregnant wife (what was I thinking??? - the risk totally paid off though)
-tried to start a shared transportation business on the side in 2010, which did not fly but which gave me the opportunity to develop tools and processes to manage a business online using people located in different locations (a "cloud" crm and processes so to speak). as well, that exercise gave me the opportunity to understand how daunting is the starting, growing and managing a small business ...which further redirected me into the direction that I am going in right now:
"One stop shop for all your small business needs"
This is the concept that I will propose to entrepreneurs around the world when I will launch my website some time later this year. It will be a place where entrepreneurs will be able to find:
- business management education (I am distilling down the professional business management concepts taught in business schools to be understandable and usable at a small business level)
- tools - crm, webmail, calendar, notes to-dos, voip phone, online fax, bookkeeping module, marketing campaigns management (emails, voicemails, sms, cold calls etc), operations management tools (scheduling and project management), HR management tools (timesheets, payroll etc)
-services (anything goes here from accounting to web design to seo to logo design to marketing campaign management).
-products - will have an amazon store specialized in business related products, will sell leads lists etc.
This is indeed a huge undertaking. If there is interest I will start a thread to describe what I have done so far and the experiences I had doing it, where I am right now and how I will be progressing. Please ask.
As well, I would like to survey members on your issues, needs and thoughts related to your entrepreneurship efforts to perhaps offer more education, services and tools integrated in my website that would help you be more successful faster and more efficient. You have the chance to participate in developing something that will serve your particular needs, don't pass up the chance!
I would appreciate any feedback on everything I wrote above, whether something like what I have described might benefit you and whether you are interested to be kept in the loop and participate in my survey(s).
Warm regards
