Sup,
I've been making what seems like a lot of mistakes recently. Nothing is going quite well.
I may be doing the wrong things.
Could somebody audit my decisions?
Starting point: 1.5 years ago I've quit a likely winning product for a new one and after struggling for 1 year, I realized I won't be able to do it. I don't know who would given the current state of tech, it was an AI product, custom AI. I was on government money during the time.
In May 2024 I've quit that product, onto the next one, to build my resume and hopefully do a nice product/project I can show on a resume - an AI that can assemble things. I thought I'd be able to do it in 2-3 weeks. After 3 more months (fulltime, no other business/income), I've quit it. Reason? I didn't know what I was doing yet again and realized I've tried buiding it completely incorrectly - I've used a completely incrrect technology and "you don't know what you don't know" hit me in the balls
I've switched to yet another product in August. I thought I would be able to turn it around in two weeks but I've stayed on that product for three months. I've made soooooooo much debugging, learned a new programming language but it's still not done. It's an MVP and I had to refactor (rewrite every line of code from 60k lines of code) about 6 times? I've even switched a programming language to another because I've misidentified the performance bottleneck, but that made project even harder to debug and here we are. I believe I know what needs to be refactored now, but it's slow.
In paralel, in August I've ran out of funds completely, and I've started window cleaning.. again. For a few months I did it a few days a mo.
I've started seriously considering college in AI given all the BS mistakes I did recently. Reasonable decision, I think. So I've recently been approved a tuition at one of Ireland's best colleges (top 5, definitely).
To earn my tuition I've went in window cleaning full-time for a month, hired an employee which only decreased money that I was making, so I'm not hiring him anymore. Or maybe I will if I will continue running ads. I'm earning on average 250EUR a day, working solo door-to-door.
At the moment, I'm living in an old house shared with 8 other men, all immigrants, most working low-wage unskilled jobs. Because a few months ago, I had nowhere to go.
I'm considering and designining a Fastlane-worthy robotics product, the mechanical design of which I've fleshed out over Christmas. You can see the speedway thread.
Outlook: I've already paid 20% of my Master's degree. Family who were successful in slowlane advise to be the top student in the group. I know I definitely have the hustle to do it. It will be hard financially, I guess.
I'll be trying to run ads and get more or less "hands-off" business for my window cleaning biz. However, I need investments, even to buy a car for a business (not driven by me, but by my employees), and... waste more cash onto something that is meant to pay tuition and roof over a head?
I'll be trying to bring the hardware product to market. It costs as much for a car as to manufacture a single unit - about 2k. Lease the product out for $1500/mo, hopefully saving employers one hire per mo.
I'll need approx 1600EUR/mo to pay tuition and pay rent and pay bills.
For the next two-three weeks before the degree starts: pedal to the metal earn all I can. One sad thing is that I can't earn in the evenings with window cleaning. I would've.
(and of course, I'm working 9:00 to 21:00 daily.)
