Hey there,
I'm "tidying up" my Virtual Reality startup and I replacing old CPA's and lawyers with new ones (they did a really terrible job advising me), and it's partly my fault for not being well informed on topics regarding accounting and law, but I guess this is what experience is for, right?
Now, I contacted my lawyer who specializes on litigation if he knew anyone or any process to create a legal document assembly for software development (NDA's, B2B legalese, etc..), and he plainly responded "no, I don't know anyone...sorry), could have been nice to be guided towards the right direction. Anyways, I'm reaching out to our community here hoping if someone can point me in the right direction. Do I have to find a lawyer who specializes in software/tech? or any lawyer who has templates that can be reviewed also work?

Transactional lawyer here with experience in that area - I recommend finding someone who specializes in software and tech. The reason why is that they are going to be able to help you plan better for acquisitions, exit financing, licensing, and IP protection than a legal generalist. Suppose your growth leads you to a place when you are either seeking major investments or getting offers to buy you out. You’ll be better off closing these deals fast without getting tied up in due diligence or having to amend agreements with people who might want to cash in.

If you want to IM me I may be able to point you to somebody I know - it’s not what I do now so I don’t have a dog in the hunt.

Hmm, could it be your lawyer was so busy to open a browser, cause I just did an "NDA template" search on Google and thousands of results popped up? Are you looking for something custom? I bet someone can create a custom NDA for less than $50 on Fiverr for you.

What's intriguing, however, is to see the words, CPAs, lawyers, and and "un-launched" startup in the same sentence. And you are even replacing them, are you launching a Fortune 100 company out the gate?

Find the expensive lawyer who specializes in exactly what you need. You won't regret it.

Worth every penny.

This! The expensive specialist tends to be cheaper in the long run. Look for specialists, talk to them and see which ones you connect with best. You could end up working with that firm and that partner for a long time.

I agree, would you please mind sharing with me your acquaintance's firm? to have a better idea.

I'm 31 and I've already been involved in lawsuits, sometimes a general NDA is good enough, but to acquire legal documents that are generalized doesn't mean that it is a one-size-fit-all. From my experience, it's best to hire a lawyer to design the documents according to you and your business. In fact, I hired a generalist lawyer who I had to keep contacting to make corrections, now I am looking for a lawyer who can build a strong set of documents to protect my interests better.

I agree, I've met some local lawyers and I guess the next step is to find IT lawyers. If I don't connect with some of them...is it possible to hire a lawyer form another state? will that be wise? I ask because I've had a fair share with lawyers who have very cold personalities and sometimes it just doesn't click.
