Before, I thought knowing more was the most important thing.
But over time, I realized something:
what I’ve learned has little value compared to what I’ve actually done.
Then I understood something even deeper:
doing more isn’t enough either.
What really matters is doing what matters.
Today, I actively fight the urge to overlearn.
I even memorized quotes to stop myself from overthinking problems.
As MJ DeMarco says:
“The only problem that exists is the one in front of you.”
Entrepreneurship taught me something else:
knowing 10 programming languages is useless.
What matters is knowing just enough of the one you need,
at the moment you’re facing the problem.
Because the more you try to understand everything before acting,
the more you risk either freezing… or overengineering.
Another trap is trying to go “big.”
You want to build a social network?
So you start planning everything like a “real” engineer.
Alright. Let me be your Google:
You need graphs (SurrealDB).
You need Next.js for frontend and backend.
You need a clean UI with Material UI.
Maybe even Rust.
And of course, to stay “professional,” GraphQL.
Sounds smart.
But you forgot one thing:
Most developer-entrepreneurs who successfully launched their first platform…
did it with spaghetti code.
The real approach is different:
start with a landing page.
Then build one feature.
Then another.
Always with one goal: make it real, usable, concrete.
Today, my approach is simple:
I don’t code anything without a concrete outcome.
It may sound simple, but concrete results create dopamine.
And that dopamine makes the effort feel lighter.
So don’t be professional.
Be impactful.
