Kindle Unlimited... Authors in trouble?

What's to keep you from starting them in KDPS and then, once you've already gained your traction and visibility, pulling them out at the end of the first 90 days and publishing elsewhere? If I ever gain any of either of those things, that's what I'll do.

Great minds think alike! I've debated just such a thing. But here's my dilemma, which I'd love anyone's thoughts on...

My mailing list is approaching 1,900 people. When I released Book#2, I had some problems with the Barnes & Noble posting, so Book #2 went live on B&N about a week after Amazon. During that timeframe, I had a handful of people emailing me, unhappy that it wasn't on B&N yet. I'm not sure how I'd do the "new release" email if I go Amazon-exclusive right away. "Hey, it's on Amazon, but if you're not on Amazon, you'll have to wait 90 days. Whooo!" I feel funny about it. Thoughts?

Hey, something else... We all know what happened when Amazon cornered the audiobook market. They slashed royalties by half. After they run the other players out of business, this is a distinct possibility. (Ah yes, another clue that this isn't exactly fastlane...)

Potential Options I'm Considering:

• As COSenior says above, releasing something on Amazon first, then everywhere else 90 days later.
• Releasing everywhere from day#1, but only for a week/month/whatever, then pulling back to Amazon only.
• Rotate the books in and out of select randomly, so there's always a mix of in/out. The only problem is it's hard to make sure the back matter is consistent. (Meaning how we link to Book#2 at the conclusion of Book#1.)

As of right now, I'm strongly considering moving Book#3 to select, if only as an experiment. The only thing that's stopping me isn't so much the lost sales on the other platforms, but rather customer relations. I hate the idea of alienating fans not on Amazon. Hmmm...
