Hello,
I am a Kenyan-based entrepreneur.
I am currently 24yrs and I dropped out of college a year ago to pursue what I discovered I am best at. I was studying engineering at one of the universities over here for four years, however, my experience was not what I would have defined as education. It was pretty much just cramming answers to questions from previous exams which unsurprisingly the lecturers repeated over and over again in consequent tests. Most of the students could hardly solve problems that they hadn't crammed before.
I decided to leave this and focus on Software Engineering, which over the years has sparked an interest in me, and I've always been better at it than most. I decided to join a tough online Software Engineering program that had a sponsorship going on and most importantly did not focus on just getting good grades but on teaching you how to solve problems and build solutions. I've doubled down on it over the past 12 months and it has been the best decision I have made. This is where I learned that information in this day and age is pretty much free and accessible to everyone. What people lack is the desire to learn and keep learning - a growth mindset.
I have also used this time to meet Entrepreneurs in my country who have built companies with 9-figure valuations(USD) and others who are in the process. From as young as 18yrs to 50yrs. This has opened my eyes to what is possible even if you are not in a developed country. Some of these companies are almost getting to unicorn status. Having gone to a couple of internships, I knew that a scripted lifestyle is not something I want to be part of. M.J's book The Millionaire Fastlane was one of the first books I read a couple of years ago and It has shaped most of the decisions I have made to date.
I am currently building a solution to a problem I identified and working hard to launch it as soon as possible, get feedback and continue iterating to product market fit, of course, applying the CENTS principle. It will be a tough journey but having seen others make it to the unscripted lifestyle know what awaits if I keep going.
Glad to be part of the community.
