Who are you trying to be?
Someone who knows it all? Who is accepted by a certain type of scrutinising folk?
Or do you want to branch out, denounce your alliegence to the world wide business persons club, and just be someone who "gets it" "has what s/he needs" "knows whats up" and doesn't need a badge for deeds well done?
I think that removing your ignorance and intolerance of business is "necessary" but identifying yourself as a business person is completely optional.
And I don't think many people think about it.
Here are some reasons I don't identify as a business guy
1) Constructing a knowledge base for yourself is hard, constructing a knowledge base for everyone else is a pain in the butt and a bigger responsibility
2) I generally find them "prickly" in demeanor and I find that people relate to business guys in an obnoxious and expectant way
3) I like peace and quiet, and could care less about my business image
4) Fears, money problems, insecurity are all relatively fixable without going full business
5) Why limit yourself to a name or existing idea? Just be you, be effective, be happy
Now thats not to say you can't achieve those things AND be a biz guy, but you can be "just a guy who knows what he is doing" too.
When I look around, I feel like the business world is all caught up in the constipated attempt to cast a big shadow, blow a loud trumpet, and rar rar rar, but when I look at what is really required all that looks like a fat load of hot air.
Why do you think you need to appear special or well achieved?
Would you feel better as just a guy or gal who gets whats up and knows what they are doing, than putting the rest of the world on your shoulders?
Here is how I explain my new capacities as a business man, I just don't.
Why?
Because I just don't care, at all.
Life is a big task, and there are all these little side roads, like business, relationships, health, rar rar rar.
So why not just let it all go.
Just be you.
And get better at the things that matter, whether business, life, hobby.
You don't have to "change".
Smile, enjoy who you are, and don't give up that spirit you have.
