Hello all!
I used to have an account here, didn't post much but did quite a bit of lurker.
That's usually how I am though, I like to lurk. I hate being the guy asking the same questions that have been asked 1000 times already.
I plan to change that now though and give back a little more to this community. This is by far one of the best websites on the Internet. You all are some of the most inspiring, motivational, and knowledgeable people out there. Now that I'm back in the game, I decided to come back here for some support and to gain some of your wisdom.
So here's my story in brief -
When I started reading this site I was in college doing a bit of IT support contract work. At the time I knew that college wasn't really for me (I was never a great student). So soon after I dropped out and started selling flooring on 100% commission. It was a terrible gig and I was being sent to some of the roughest houses imaginable to convince to people to buy carpet. I was hauling my samples around in a beat-up 92 sentra which didn't last long before the thing couldn't handle it anymore.
While that was a sucky experience I did learn one important lesson. That when push comes to shove, I CAN SELL. Up until that point I thought I was more technical and didn't have the aptitude to sale anything. I made one sale and then stopped after my car broke down.
Soon after I was working a 9-5 doing technical support over the phone. I left that and re-located from the Great White North to the Sunny South.
Started another 9-5 doing more IT work. Eventually it turned into a coding/software role and I learned a TON from that job. I also got a lot of Digital Marketing experience.
Fast-foward to now. I left that job and spent a few months looking for something else. Struggled to find anything so I made a leap and asked my old employer if I could do part-time contract work for them supporting their Marketing efforts...
During the past couple of years I've been working on my business model for a SAAS company that provides Marketing software.
With the capital, time, and renewed energy I have, I'm finally giving this project the love it deserves.
I've been incubating, fermenting, and analyzing this concept for awhile now and made small moves towards it. But it's not enough, I need to see some real progress. For the first time in my life I have the chance to make my dream a reality.
I'd like to start a progress thread and keep you all updated if anyone is interested. I think it will help me stay focused.
