I've been lurking on this forum for a while and thought it was time to introduce myself.
My name is Guillaume but since it's probably unpronounceable for most of you, you can call me Will. I'm 27 years old and currently working as a stock clerk, very exciting job... or not.
I tried writing my introduction post on MS Word before posting it on the forum but it ended up being a 3 pages long resume of the events that ultimately lead me here and various over ramblings. You probably would have skipped to the tl;dr anyway, so f*** it, we'll do it live!
So here are a few facts about my background:
Dropped out on my last year of high-school. (Yeah that's probably why I'm replenishing shelves nowadays... go figure)
Had quite a successful poker “career” for 7 years. Starting by building mountains of pistachios at micro-limits, all the way to playing for monthly wages at high-stakes. Bought shiny toys, a nice apartment and was partying and eating out every night. Basically I was throwing my money out the window. Everything ended on a nasty nervous breakdown, a year long of deep depression and couchsurfing. No money left. What a rough ride. The perfect depiction of a sidewalker.
Do what you love they said... Well here's what happens when you do what you love for a living. What you love becomes your worst nightmare.
Anyway, moved back home, living with my mom and my grandmother. I've been working at dead-end minimum wage jobs for 2 years now, trying to reorganize my life. It wasn't easy to come from making piles of cash all the way back to earning peanuts, but hey, at least now I gained enough maturity to put some money on the side, even if it's only 50 bucks a month.
The problem is, I've become what I've always feared to be. A wage slave. A cog at the bottom of an economic food chain. All due to the poor choices I made until now. The good thing is, I still can correct all this by starting to make the right choices from now on.
Which is what brought me to this forum.
I considered going back to school and get a business degree so I started by reading some books about business, finance and entrepreneurship. A friend of mine lend me a few and TMF was among them. Needless to say, this book completely modified my view on the world.
Instead of wasting 4-5 years on a degree which would lead me to become a slightly better cog, I could own the whole machine. I “just” have to find a need and provide value to people.
I have big dreams but even if I don't make it to millionaire, chances are I won't need a job anymore.
So here's where I'm at right now.
I already started working on an information product. It's in a pretty crowded niche and I don't really know yet how I'm going to publish it but I don't expect much from it anyway. I'm doing it for the experience.
Also working on a basic entrepreneur “skill-set”. Copywriting (seams to be a big trend here these days), Wordpress, SEO, and english (I understand it quite well, writing is ok too, but speaking it is a major problem at the moment. Just a muscle I need to work on.)
I'm considering joining the INSIDERS forum, not sure if I should do so just yet... I'll welcome your advices.
There's a lot of work to be done and the clock is ticking my friends!
Tl;dr: Quit school. Made tons of money building mountains of pistachios. Made bad choices. Gone broke. Survived. Read TMF . Looking to provide value. Here, have a cookie.
Thank you for spending some time reading this.
