My name is Eric, I am from NM, USA. I am a husband, father and entrepreneur (or at least trying to be). I am an heir of an old Spanish Land-grant which dates back to a settlement by Spaniards long ago.
After jumping from job to job for approximately 10 years after graduating high school, I decided to go back to college and pursue a degree/ career which would have decent pay, benefits, retirement, and also function as my backup plan/ plan B. My parents always preached the former. Since 2021 I have been working with my degree as an Electrical Engineer in the power distribution industry. The work is fully remote and the company, employees, and my manager have all been supportive, helpful and encouraging. That being said, one thing with in me still remains the same... I do not like having to use my valuable time to help someone else's dream come true, or my pay & time off being dictated by others.
Thus, last year in October, I decided to leave my EE career and bet on myself. As an heir of a large (in land size) Spanish Land-grant I am able to harvest the abundance of stone products the land-grant has to offer. The population is maybe 300 and there are less than a handful of other heirs that are also taking advantage of the stone resources available. For the last 30 years, my father is the only heir who transports these stone products and parks on the side of a busy highway in a somewhat expensive to live in/ artsy city called Santa Fe. This city is where we have found the most success when it comes to selling stone products. So, I have seen the enormous potential. For reference, when my father sells just one large boulder, he make as much or more (depending on size) as I do in two weeks as an EE. The other heirs sell straight form the land-grant(thus cheaper in price), because of this, since my high school days I have envisioned opening up multiple stone yards through out NM and even in other neighboring states being I have the advantage of not having to buy and flip to make profit. Since last October, I figured I could increase the value of a piece of stone by offering personalized stone engravings, everything from address stones, memorial/ headstones and decorative stones (images/ designs). I have other ideas to also increase the value per stone. Pertaining to engravings, my sales have been slow at best other than some momentum these past couple of months. What I have learned since October, is that there is interest in these products and the bulk of my sales have come by word of mouth and customers stopping to speak with my father/ see my products in Santa Fe. Since the bills keep coming and a slow start to my entrepreneurship, I have since went back to my EE career part-time and am contemplating going back full-time. Although it would not be easy, and I don't really want to... I do feel confident that I can handle both at the same time until my "side hustle" is my main hustle.
After reading nearly all of Millionaire FASTLANE , I do know 100% that I will reach my goals of being my own boss. I just need guidance and advice to help me be more efficient in my journey. I do want to give a shout out to MJ DeMarco for the inspiration and also to my wife who is also on here and highly recommended I do the same. I know this is a somewhat of a long read but I do look forward to input from others!
