Hello Fastlaners!
A bit about me: LOOOONG time lurker (mainly in 2017-2019) and I owe MJ's Millionaire Fastlane book, this forum and its distinguished members "ad king" @Andy Black "landscaping and voicemail marketing king"@Johnny boy and MANY others a tonne in shaping my mindset and business acumen over the years.
2 reasons why I had a break and why I finally decided to join:
1. In 2019 I took the plunge and started up a property financial services company offering a helping hand for first time buyers to get onto UK's property ladder via a rent-to-own system, which later was pivoted to mortgage deposit partnership top-ups. After a year of working on the business with my co-founder and having gone through a couple of startup accelerator programmes we were in seed raising mode, engaging Angels and VCs until we finally caught a break and... covid19 struck. Just prior to the outbreak we've had a commitment for our seed raise (a few million £) from a partner of one of my good friends who also had a seat on our board.
And... in light of the covid19 induced market uncertainty I walked away from the deal as I wasn't 100% sure I could deliver the returns we promised to our Investor, and ours being a highly leveraged financial product there was little room for errors.
Closed shop. But the entrepreneurial bug never left. Am currently building a SaaS tool to manage remote teams as part of a makers competition, and involved in a couple other smaller market tests. Once one of these small bets takes off with significant market traction the plan is to focus in on it and go all-in!
2. Second reason(s) is that I decided to be less anon on the net AND realised that someone might find my experiences helpful. Experiences which were shaped by 3 own startups, corporate life, corporate life dealing with startups, numerous web portals (affiliate marketing), running ads, cold reachout, building teams... you name it I've probably done it (at various levels of skill of course) - and as many business owners know, once you decide to create something from nothing you'll be wearing MANY hats, at least in the beginning.
And so I decided to join in the discussions and am looking forward to giving back to this amazing forum, as well as learning further!
