Hey fast-laners.
It’s been several months since I checked in here, I wasn’t super active before and I doubt I’ll be super active again but I wanted to share some of the things that have happened over the last few months.
It pretty much all starts off with reading MJ’s latest ‘The Great Rat Race Escape ’, I had read Unscripted and TMF and was working through the beginnings of my entrepreneurial adventure.
I had already failed (abysmally!) with a Landing Page specialist business, started a Web Development business with an old acquaintance and we had the beginnings of a real winner.
The Web Dev gig evolved into an SEO gig and that has evolved once more into a Software Integrations and Optimizations gig.
My business partner and I are both ecstatic with the progress, the dips and turns, the pivots and all the other unforeseen events that have been thrown at us this past year and I am eternally grateful to MJ and the you lot for your inspiration and dedication to bettering the world, bettering yourselves, and so generously sharing your experiences here on the forum.
After reading ‘TGRRE’ I cracked down on a lot of my bad habits (bad meaning not helping move me closer to my goals) so I nixed social media, video games, afternoon Netflix, and a lot of other things. This also included my daily forays into this forum, hence my absence. I still want to check in though because I feel that what has happened to me over the past few months is something many budding entrepreneurs can learn from.
In ‘TGGRE’ MJ brings up the Planasy - formulating a 10 - 5 - 1 year plan, when I filled mine out I was blown away by what I wanted and what I needed to do to achieve them.
I realized that my half-a$$ed efforts, my bad habits, my procrastinations, my doggy-doo-doo work ethic and my desperate searches for distractions were not the actions that let to my definition of success.
I was an entrepreneur in name only and my business would never be anything more than a sub-par time waste because of it.
It was at this point that I could’ve just thrown in the towel, I could’ve submitted myself to be a corporate cog, it’s so much easier.
Not everyone is cut out for this anyways, right?
Looking at my ‘Planasy’ I understood right away that things needed to change so I set out to change them.
I cut out the bad habits:
- Spending 3-4 hours/day on Netflix wasn’t helping me so I cut it out
- Staying up till 2am playing video games wasn’t helping me so I cut it out.
- Spending 2-3 hours/day checking social media/forums/YouTube cat videos wasn't helping so I cut it out.
It turns out that cutting that stuff out freed up literal hours that I was then able to spend working on myself and working on my business.
I spent hours looking inwards and I finally identified my ‘Why’ and I can’t even begin to tell you how fiercely my enthusiasm for what I’m trying to build is burning now.
My ‘Why’ keeps me working later, waking up earlier, working harder, with greater focus and determination. I wake up in the middle of the night with my ‘Why’ screaming for attention. The fear of failure is completely gone and I now know, beyond any shadow of a doubt that my goals are within reach and that I am capable of so much more than I ever thought possible.
I’m reading books on leadership, on character development, on communication, on marketing. I see myself as the weakest link in my business and am determined to improve who I am and what I can do.
It’s been wild.
The results?
I’m no millionaire, yet.
I’m not really worried about that anymore, anyways.
I am striving to be valuable to the market. Because of this, I am definitely taking on more jobs than ever before, and my current clients are beyond thrilled with what we are able to provide them. This then has turned into repeat work, referrals, and introductions I never would have made otherwise. I have broadened my network and have met incredible individuals who have built absolutely amazing things.
It’s still hard. I’m working harder than ever which means sacrifice.
I know what I need to do to achieve my definition of success.
I also know why I am doing what I’m doing.
This forum is a treasure. But just pouring over Gold threads won’t get you nearer your goals so take what nuggets of gold you need to stay motivated then get back out there and go to work.
