As mentioned before, I'm an HR-manager at a transport company. One year ago I was really bored and was looking for another job. I couldn't find a decent one (luckily) and decided to start my own company. I'm preparing all this for the moment and the plan is to start all this while doing a full time job, so I can't give it up for the moment.
But I started some experiments during the days that I'm stuck in the slowlane. A few months ago I started acting like it was my own company and since then the fun started. I took much more responsibility which led to more respect by my boss and colleagues. While I was not liked at all by the employees one year ago, they also started to respect me.
And there's more: I have certain visions about how the company should change and my boss asked my about my ideas. Slowly but certain the whole company is evolving just like I was drawing the blueprints. My boss sees me now as his right hand. And even he still is the boss, he took over many of my ideas he was against before.
Not all my colleagues support the changes, so I also have to do a lot of politics. Think of House of Cards, I also have a "Peter Russo" (no Stamper though)
So, if you're stuck in the slowlane, just act like it's your company and enjoy the process. I'm still learning everyday now and I'm sure it will make me a better boss in the future. Working with people brings a lot of problems, but a good atmosphere in the company can avoid a lot.
