Here's one ...

4 or 5 years ago, I was on a date in Scottsdale. I drove to the date location in my shiny new Viper. I might have owned it two weeks and wasn't familiar with the car.

I go on the date .... have about 3 drinks ... have a nice time ... and then leave.

As I am sitting at a red light, I decide that it might be cool to street-race some punk. At the time I owned another Viper (which was much faster) so I assumed that I knew how the car would react. I didn't. I took off like gang-busters and lost control of the car.

The Viper started spinning like a top and crossed over into oncoming traffic. Several cars were missed and the car slammed into a palm tree. When it was over, the trunk of the palm tree was sitting in my passenger's seat.

The officer on the scene said my surival was 50 - 50 ... had the car hit the palm tree driver side, vs passenger side, I'd be dead.

Luck and a big lesson learned.

Actually you chance of getting killed was ~20% if you just considered the palm tree.

I figure there are 360 degrees around a circle. the point of impact which would have killed you d have been about 30 to 45 degrees whicis a little less than one quater of the circle. Now many other factors are involved such as the oncoming traffic, conditions of the road now your score goes way up! I would dare say that your survival rate was much more like 20% as a rough guess. The equation would break down into full chaos depending onhow many cars missed you.

Anyway,

This is one of the reasons I do not plan more than six months in advance at the moment. Too many variables to consider that would influence the outcome.

It's good to have a goal andfinal destination but the details are hard to fathom more than six months out. it's easier to shoot multiple targets 10 feet away than one target one mile away.


I'm surprised no one has talked about the Reticular activating system here. That is the most important function of the brain in creating your own luck.
