Today is the day. I just got laid off, without any savings. And I'm 40 years old with a family that's counting on me. My job was the sole income of the family. I know MJ talked about external factors that we cannot control in the slow lane, but this has hit me hard. Being told something and experiencing it yourself is way different. I hope that this is the turn of event MJ has been talking about, the moment that you realize fastlane is the only way. I hope that this is the end of the slow lane for me.
The skills I acquired over my career has been quite general and useless. I'm glad that I started to learn AI and coding before ChatGPT came out. Before reading MJ's book, I wanted to become an AI engineer. The past 2 years I have used all of my time in learning AI, from traditional machine learning to deep neural networks and LLMs. I have built several projects like brain tumor detection (CNN), music classifier (CNN) and bike rental predictions (XGboost). I think it is time for me to do a deep dive into AI applications. I want to search for the fastlane in the AI space.
