2020 was the year I started smoking weed again. Height of COVID, feeling successful, not much to do, dispensary around the corner. etc.
I wasn’t even a heavy smoker- 1 baby hit every day or two. But it’s undeniable the negative affect its had on me. This was VERY hard to realize- at no point was I anything like the stereotypical do-nothing stoner. I was doing Crossfit several times per week, closing deals, traveling a lot, etc.
What I’ve learned is that marijuana is in a category of addictions that create a void that only that thing can fill. And ironically, marijuana DOES have a temporary positive effect.. but only for the first couple weeks. Then you get a new baseline and you require marijuana to just bring you back to normal. Very similar to coffee. It robs you of your natural dopamine, your natural abilities to relax and cope with stresses. It’s dangerous because it happens super gradually. But this is true no matter how often or how little you smoke/vape/eat edibles.
Anyway, I was in denial about this for years. Flip flopping back and forth. Man, maybe I should quit. Nah, it’s actually useful because I use it to get a little boost of creativity/energy in the afternoon so I can get more work done. I’ve learned these internal justifications are how the mind of an addict works. You recognize the thing is bad for you, then instantly start justifying why you should keep using. That little devil on your shoulder keeps you trapped.
I flip flopped on and off for weeks at a time. The time off, realizing how much sharper and more motivated I am, like a fog has lifted. Only to break the streak a few weeks in with “just one hit won’t hurt.” “Today was especially stressful’. Just to fall back into the cycle. A few weeks later going “man I feel foggy, I should take another break.”
Well, I’ve been extremely blessed because this year my video agency has opened the door to SO many cool opportunities that I never would have expected. To not recognize how incredibly blessed I am right now, and to do ANYTHING to squander the blessings being placed before me would just be asinine. Quitting weed is among about a dozen other things I'm doing right now to "stack the deck" and keep the momentum.
I thought to myself, I wish there was a book.. something like “How To Quit Smoking Weed The Easy Way.” Through self development forums, I remembered two books that were praised for their instant effectiveness- How To Quit Smoking by Allen Carr, and The EasyPeasy Method To Quit Porn. So I spent a few weeks adapting them into the book I needed.
This problem is huge, especially here on the Fastlane Forum, among entrepreneurs, and the younger generations. The “productive stoner” is maybe even more prevalent than the age old “loser stoner” stereotype of previous generations. Maybe more dangerous because on the surface it looks harmless, or even beneficial.
If you’re currently a user, quitting weed is the most Fastlane thing you can do. There is nothing Fastlane about being trapped in addiction and requiring a chemical crutch. If you’re thinking, “nah it’s fine, I’m making tons of money, business is good, I can indulge”- you literally don’t even know what you’re fully capable of. If you’re that successful WITH it, imagine what you could achieve free of the prison its put you in? And think about this- not a single marijuana user would suggest their kids start using.
I'm completely off it now and will never go back. I'm sharper and more motivated than ever.
If you or anyone you know is struggling with quitting weed, here’s the book in its entirety, completely free. Please use it, share it, let me know what you think.
