I'm thinking about hitting up a company for a licensing deal on one of their patents. It's a very thorough patent and I don't see any way around it.

I could see maybe making a couple of additions to their product but not enough to bypass the patent law.

Does anyone have experience with this? Would this be giving up too much control?

If they don't license it already it might be at tough call.
The first thing to consider is if your licence will cannibalize their products.

If it doesn't and they are willing to make a deal, then you gotta consider
if you don't give too much control.

Basically you would have to have some advantage that keeps them in the deal, instead of
not extending it and doing it on their own.
