I’m on the process of my business where I am starting to find where my demographic is congregating and I’m trying to build relations with the host/owner/leader of the community. I appreciate the advice that MJ DeMarco mentioned about speaking to others with a GIVE mentality rather then trying to always TAKE.
Example of TAKE mentality:
“Hey Tom, I’m hoping you can join my podcast since you’re really well known on the subject about fitness. I’m really passionate about fitness and this could really make a big impact on my career. Can we start tomorrow?”
Example of GIVE mentality:
“Hey Tom I’d be hoping you can join my podcast and discuss about fitness. I have 5k live listeners with 100k followers that stay tuned on my podcast so you’ll definitely get great exposure. You can even promote your book about your fitness business. We can accommodate to your schedule and take no more then 45 minutes of your time…”
Notice how one is all about “ME. ME. ME.” Meanwhile the other has something to offer? If you were Tom, which would you more likely say Yes to?
I’m writing this thread to find more ways to give when negotiating and building relationships. Here’s my current ways to GIVE. Feel free to add your methods in this forum.
GIVE strategies:
- More exposure and publicity (Large amounts, not tiny)
- Offer promotion of their assets onto your platform
- Scheduling flexibility
- Offer affiliate to your product with 30% profit of every sale the creator makes
- Offer free sample of your product
