If you still would like to get the best of twitter, I suggest using the Lists and Mute functions. These two made my twitter experience much better.
1. Lists:
If you follow someone on twitter, your timeline will show:
- their tweets
- tweets that they shared (retweets)
- their replies to other's tweets
- tweets that they hit like on
- promoted tweets
- annoying ads
Instead, if you add them to a List rather than following them, you'll only see:
- their tweets
- tweets that they shared (retweets)

Now, every time you login to twitter, your timeline will be blank (mostly). You can go straight to Lists section and read tweets from people you added.
You can create lists based on your interests (for example, some of mine are health, sales, writing, coding, and few others) and add people who you think post valuable content.
Lists can be either public or private. If the list is public, people you add will be notified. Also, anyone on twitter can see the people on your lists and their tweets as well.
If it’s private, none can see it and even the people you add to the list won’t be notified.
2. Mute words:
When corporate media is in full swing to spew a biased narrative, people post/share things without even verifying whether it’s true or not. The misinformation spreads faster. To escape from this lunacy, simply mute the words you don’t want to see.
Example: coronavirus, covid, lockdown, Russia, Ukraine, inflation, anything related to politics, etc.
You can mute them for a certain time period or forever. You'll no longer see tweets that contain the muted words.
Twitter now becomes a place to learn rather than being an entertainment cesspool.
