A little over a year later, I'd say that life's too F*cking short to be stuck with a business you're disillusioned with.

I think that oftentimes people who end up bitter about their careers or businesses are those who never had the guts to move on and start anew with something else.

Surprised I haven't commented on this thread.

For me, these are the questions that always circulate in my mind...
  1. Do I dread the day?
  2. Am I excited on Monday, or hating it?
  3. Am I excited about the future?
  4. Does the effort and stress involved in the business have an appropriate reward?
  5. Will I grow personally if I stick with this business, or am I becoming a mindless manager who just wanders thru the day?
  6. Am I passionate about the product/service I'm offering? (NOT passionate about industry or processes, just the value you're delivering)
These questions were imperative behind my reasons for selling my business the 2nd time around, every question was answered in the negative, and that's why I knew it was time to let it go and move on to another 'career'.

These are some excellent questions. I wish I asked this myself 1-2 years ago.

Either way, there are ALWAYS examples of someone who's successful doing it one way... and then someone who's successful doing it the exact opposite way.
The author that immediately comes to mind being successful the opposite way is Thomas Pynchon. Practically zero marketing and the dude sells millions every time.
