How to convince my boss to market via the internet?

I work for a medical device company where the CEO is VERY protective of our devices to such a point that she wants to avoid marketing on the internet, in fear the ideas will get taken. I understand her concern, as we are a small business and larger companies could snatch up our ideas and run with them in a nanosecond. However, we keep our sales and growth from growing exponentially by not tapping into this method of marketing in the modern age.

Could you please share with me some ideas on how we might be able to market via the Web without putting our company's great ideas at risk of being snatched up?

If we wanted to start slowly with internet marketing, what is the safest, most conservative approach to take? Would Facebook ads be reasonably safe, with their ability to be directed/targeted at individuals in the industry?

Thanks for your help!
