speed.... cause it's the right thing to do

A few of the gals around here are my favorite posters. When I see their names pop up, I read the thread.

Why?

Because generally they don't talk bullshit, don't engage in drama, and add value. I learn from them.

I went to Beer and Pancakes last year, which is the non-sanctioned annual gathering that spun off from this forum. There were a handful of women in attendance. I was intrigued, because they were brilliant, focused, and were the sharpest minds in the room. They were outnumbered 5-1 but added value on a per person scale scale of 1 beating 5.

I was fortunate enough to be able to have dinner this past week with a group of Fastlaners in Dallas. A forum member that posts seldom here any more was there. She's brilliant, she runs several businesses, and is free to travel and live life fully. She has a network that she gained from here that she connects with off line on business development.

So, there's a current generation of people on the forum including several brilliant ladies. We are not able to do anything to get back the ones we lost over the years for various reasons including misogyny, idiots, and frat boys... but if you want to develop a professional relationship with the brilliant ones that are here we need to clean this place up.

This is a self filtering forum. If we fuel trolls and idiots, they will get their thrills by agitation. That comes at the expense of serious entrepreneurs, and many times at the expense of female entrepreneurs. The best way to keep the best people is by getting rid of the haters.

If what we put forth is valuable, motivating, and gender neutral... we will see more and more of these brilliant minds stick around here. I need more female executives on my inner circle. Their perspectives and common sense tend to be a voice of sensibility and fresh air in the swamp that we live in.

Guard this forum and make it a place that welcomes and fosters entrepreneurs regardless of race, sex, or any other labels we tend to use to stereotype people with. You can help us gain and keep more successful female entrepreneurs. And, if you are 24 going on 18 and still see women as opponents and conquests, this probably isn't the right forum for you.

The People & Relationships forum is like an open invitation to talk about your personal life. In my age group, we're not married, we don't have long term partners, we're attempting to figure life out, and a lot of us are getting burned in the process. The fact that the discussion is usually about women comes down to the forum's current populace: lot's of young, straight males. If the discussion is undesirable like religion and politics, then it'd be wise to not offer that place for discussion.

Valid. I sent that over to MJ to look at. It is a small % of the forum, small traffic, but certainly the topics still populate people's news feeds. So... maybe he will kill it. Good suggestion.

This subject isn't about one thread or one poster. If you see yourself in it, however, that might be some good introspection. Several of the posters that come to mind for me left before you even got here. So no, it's not about you nor your thread... but anyone who may think this is aimed at them might want to take a step back and consider the perspectives of the ones you think you might offend.

Ya, I felt the barrel to my head on that one haha. Thanks for clarification. :)

I'm not going to sit back and pretend like all the talk about "hating women" doesn't relate to my thread death of the nuclear family.

Actually what I said has nothing to do with your thread since Ive never seen that thread before ... These are just general insights.

..... But then again if the shoe fit, wear it ... right?

p.s. I like your insights behind the reasoning for that thread though so I might just end up taking a look at it.

No, don't leave! Your posts are always interesting, dammit.

I think it's only natural that there'd be frustration on both sides -- the veterans with answering the same old questions over and over again, and the newbies reacting to any impatience they might feel. But both groups have a lot to offer.

Agree! As a newbie myself, I would only ask a question if I can't find it on the internet or if I would like an experienced opinion.

So leave.
I didn't join this forum to read replies like this.

For the new forum members here, some of the most usefull knowledge here can be found from "Jill" and "Aroundtheworld". You can do a search for their profile and see their posts there.
Thank you for this! I appreciate the help. Will head over and read their posts now. Cheers.

You're not going to be around here very long if all your posts go like this. There's not going to be any abuse of anybody handed out here. You have no idea who the people on here even are, "big time." Sit back, get to know the place a little bit better, and then maybe you will begin to add some value.

You've got 28 posts and two likes. A good rule of thumb is one like per post on average. Focus on adding value to the discussions and your credibility here will gain attention.

It's thanks to that guy that I've discovered the new and improved IGNORE function. It works quite well! :D

Edit: Nobody here has 20 billion dollars, so we're all small time to him anyway.

Well the real business world is 10 times tougher than this forum, so it would be good practice for a female to deal with the abuse here, because the way they handle it will can improve their business approach

The truth is, the few of us on here that are actually big time, do offer value that cannot be found any where else.

Oh. I never realised us women need to get abused by men in Business. Any "man" that has dared to speak down to me, didn't get any of my time. What a pathetic and sexist thing to say. Women already have a tough time being taken seriously let alone someone spewing this out now.

If you cannot respect what we bring, please do not dare to speak to women who bring it and close it.

I find it interesting no one has mentioned this as a possibility yet:

Look at the cover of MJ's book. If a woman is looking for a book about entrepreneurship, and she has the following choices, which is she more likely to pick up? (assuming here she has had no word of mouth referrals, or other reason's to go for a particular book)

Feminine Covers such as "Rich Woman", or a book with Suze Orman's face smiling back at her...
A more neutral cover such as Four Hour Work Week
Or MJ's fast car title and cover. (I confess, I don't even know nor do I care what kind of car that is...)

The fastlane screams young buck.

YES, YES, YES, EXACTLY. The most accurate, intelligent thing that has been said in this entire thread.

Not everyone holds the dream of driving a Lambo and having a company of dozens of employees that they manage. However, some do. Some have the idea of living the bachelor lifestyle. Whatever reason got you here is the right reason, RIGHT NOW. The fastlane with force those who need to change and flush out the rest.

I've gone back to reading the book, because I need to hear the truths it holds again. However, I could see how a woman would read it for five minutes and put it down. Why? Because it is written by a man, and the tone of the book is very masculine (direct, light on emotion, logical). Likewise, if I tried to read the book by Sheryl Sandberg, I probably wouldn't get past the first chapter, because it is not written for me, and my personality would have a hard time relating to it.

Many of you are expecting men to act different, instead of considering that the product may need some adjustments. It's like the thread where someone was bitching about customers using ad blockers on his site, when that was just consumers being consumers. Another point: I have seen a few women talking about sex, in particular, some of these romance authors (and not all about writing). Have any of you called them out?

I, for one, don't care for any male, macho talk around here. This is not the forum for that (there are shitloads of forums for that). However, you should not scratch your head if you see any of it. The desire to be better with and get more women runs parallel to entrepreneurism for many men, as both force us to change who we are for the better and step up our game if we want to be successful. The idea of getting married and having children does not currently appeal to me, and I'm a 31 year old male. Am I immature? Should I feel guilty because I don't think like the herd does on this issue? I find it childish to criticize men who arrive here with that desire (perhaps that's what motivates them, perhaps that's their Lambo, their mansion, their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow), but I find it equally childish for these men to act like this is a frat house. So, I find both sides to be incorrect on this one.

The point is you can't expect the consumer to change who they are. All that can be done is to alter the product in ways to cater to women more (forum moderation, different marketing, women's only forum, men's only forum, whatever...) and to deter these types of men from posting.

So, let's get to the solution. If you want to improve this problem, make an announcement that you will ban any male poster who talks about "getting laid", start publicly kicking them out (INSIDERS included), and you will see this problem clear up quickly.

In the past, this was pretty regular. Now I only see it once a month or so. A warning usually puts it to an end.

I'm the exact same way, I really like when people underestimate me. It is so irritating that it helps me work so much harder, because I absolutely need to prove them wrong.

But I am a female here as well, and though I have only been on this forum a short time, I don't see any issues with the men on here. Business is a male dominated world, and I think it is only natural for a business/entrepreneurial forum to reflect that.

The picture of the lambo on the front seems like a good move. Honestly I don't ever plan to drive a lambo even if I had a billion dollars. It's not really my thing. But everyone knows what it symbolizes. When I see money and dollar signs and a lambo, I am smart enough to replace the lambo with the image I want. We all know that a lambo is a status symbol of wealth (and I imagine probably fun to drive). So I can see this being marketed both for a man or woman. Also with the road there it provides an image of what the title of the book is telling you. Faaaastlaaaane...

As for women. I am not sure why anyone ever let them out of the kitchen. Having them enter the workplace is the main cause to all our economic collapses....

bwwaahaaaahhaa

OK all kidding aside... I find women also to have very strong intuition. They also can have excellent memory and pick up on tiny details. I can be completely clueless and my wife or lady friend will have to clue me in on something that went down. Maybe I don't pay enough attention to detail but let's say I come out of a store or a restaurant, how many times... and a woman will say something like "did you see that guy in there with the lame green shoes and his hair was all nasty and he was wearing the cheap fake watch from Walmart." I might be like "um nope". The other woman friend might say something like "oh was he the one that ordered the double stack cheeseburger with extra fries, hold the pickles... and was drinking the miller lite who was looking at that chick from across the room who was wearing those high heel boots and obviously didn't know how to put on her lipstick and appears she fell from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down."

That's when I am like ---> :wacky: Just take me home...

I also enjoy the input from many of the female posters on here.

There should and could be more, but it's a shame we live in a society that is still dominated by male stupidity.

It would be completely foolish to leave such a valuable forum over some opinions you don't agree with. You can always choose not to look at certain topics and focus on the ones that are most relevant to you if you're too sensitive. Everyone is going to have different perspectives on different opinions, everyone's experience with life is going to be very different than yours or mine, doesn't mean I'm going to walk away out of being offended. Sometimes you can learn some VERY valuable things while reading others perspectives, you'd be surprised what you can learn once you take your feelings out of things and solely focus on the topic.
Well said.

Your link doesn't work.

To sum it up, what are exactly are you trying to say here? Without showing us a link of some article. Would much rather hear your perspective than someone else's written view.

Well, I took the comment down along with the link. Figured it could be some lies in there. About a quote she mentions, that I can't find on the web. Anway, I did a search on this too and found almost the same article, posted 22 July, 2013. At Huffington post. LOL.

I think it's only natural that there'd be frustration on both sides -- the veterans with answering the same old questions over and over again, and the newbies reacting to any impatience they might feel. But both groups have a lot to offer.

I don't think people should act mightier than thou because their reputation speed is high. There's much to learn whether you've got 20 years under your belt or even 1. NO ONE in this forum should ever assume someone is a "newbie" because they just joined the forum. There's plenty of people here who have low reputation speeds and may possibly have a successful business! You don't know who's behind the screen!

I'm not saying she should leave because I don't like what she had to say, I think she should because she obviously doesn't see the value in this forum, which is fine. If it's too saturated with "newbies" or "people with stupid questions" there's no reason to stay and mope about it, just erase the content on your profile, delete the e-mail address associated with this account and move on to "better" things with "more successful" people.

I think anyone can add value to this forum, even the newbies with no experience in entrepreneurism. I get insight from EVERY SINGLE person on this forum that's why I joined, not to be around "the elite", "powerful" and "successful" but to share ideas with like-minded people.

We're obviously not "good enough" for her so the door is open as she already knows I'm sure.

And honestly, it just made me really uncomfortable for one person to suggest to another forum member to "just leave." For what it's worth, I'd have also taken issue with someone telling you to "just leave" too.

If I said something negative about the newbies and "stupid questions" that everyone first has, I WOULD HOPE someone would ask me to leave.

If I'm expressing dislike over something, why should I stay around? What good would it do for myself and the rest of the forum members, people who read the book and join this forum EVERYDAY? Nothing.

CashFlowDepot CAN and HAS added TONS OF VALUE to this forum, but it seems at this point in time she is ready to move on to better things. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Me telling her to leave was not out of spite or disrespect.. This forum is not a place for bitching and complaining. And if reading about newbies who have questions that are too "downright stupid to answer" don't express that, just deactivate your account. She's sticking her nose in the air because she's got her 20 years in her belt. SO WHAT? I don't care that you're serial entrepreneur but what I do care about is what you have to say and your willingness to share your knowledge no matter HOW STUPID the question may be.
