So just a few days ago I posted that my business was taking off and I was projecting $250,000 in revenue (most of which is profit) for my first client.
And then last night my wife said she wasn't feeling well and wanted me to take her to the Emergency Room. I thought she was being a little dramatic and was floored when doctors thought she might be entering septic shock. 24 sleepless hours and two ambulance rides later, I'm exhausted as I've been fighting to save my wife's life *and* having to keep my business going. I have a major six figure project that is time sensitive that was going to progress with or without me, but as I looked at my emails from the crappy wifi at the hospital I noticed that one of my vendors was making a critical mistake.
And then a prospect worth half a million in business that I've been working on for months, texted they wanted to setup a phone call ASAP tomorrow.
The semi-happy ending is it looks like my wife is going to be okay and I caught the mistake that vendor was making (which could have evaporated $100,000) and all is semi-well with the world.
But my God...
And then the kicker when this prospect that I've been working for months finally reached out. They have had contracts for a month now, so this could be the the "we're signing" call (although I'm aware it could be the "we're moving the goalpost again" call). I'm just kind of delirious.
I knew there was no walking away from a business...at least until I scaled it up. But, man...I feel like garbage for dealing with business while my wife was fighting for her life. I did the bare minimum to make sure the trains kept running without going off the rails, but it took me away from my wife's bedside.
This has just hit home I really need to scale up as soon as I can so that my business and me aren't one and the same.
But any advice for dealing with crazy personal crap while starting out?
