Hi everyone! I'm new here, so apologies if this question will be quite basic or silly to some of you.
I love cooking. I love "feeding people"
I have been cooking for me and my partner for the last 10 years and the feedback from him but also from any guests we've had for dinner is that my dishes are super interesting and delicious. This is based on opinions of people from different cultures, since I was born in Bulgaria, my boyfriend is Italian, and we have lived in the UK and now, Germany. I don't use fancy ingredients, and my dishes are typically very budget-friendly.
Since I have been vegan for 10 years, I only cook plant-based meals and compared to the average diet in the western world, I would say my dishes are pretty healthy.
I tried a food startup some years ago with 2 business partners (their idea) but we had to close the business just before actually launching the product on the market. I don't want to go into detail about why it failed, but it was mostly because we didn't know the specifics of the Bulgarian market when we began work - in Eastern Europe, things work differently and it's more about connections and "knowing your way around" than research, creativity, hard work and following the rules. But what this failed startup made me realize is that manufacturing food has nothing to do with cooking, really. And what I am trying to leverage with this idea are my skills and passion for actually preparing tasty food.
I live in Germany, near a big city. A large percentage of the population here is open to plant-based food, both for health and environmental reasons. There are tons of vegan foods in the supermarket and the variety is insane and seemingly still growing.
My questions is - would there be a way to make a profitable business out of offering people home-made plant-based dishes - lots of people would love to eat healthily on a regular basis but don't have the time or motivation to cook every day. There are strict food regulations here, so I would need to pass a food safety course, which is easy enough, but also would need to rent a commercial kitchen as I can't sell food prepared at home.
Should I look into options on how to make this profitable and scalable, or is it a non-starter in your opinion?
I was also thinking about a food truck business but that would require help from my partner, and also would require different concept and recipes, so for now I haven't explored this one in depth.
Thank you for reading!
