My name is Valery. I’m an industrial project manager with a background in engineering and economics.
I went into business right after graduating in 1992. My first “business book” was Lee Iacocca’s management book, and for me it was a breath of fresh air after the Soviet way of thinking. Throughout the 1990s I was an entrepreneur: we tried different business directions, launched and closed projects, and learned mostly by doing – in a very volatile environment.
Since the early 2000s I’ve been obsessed with one core idea: industrialised wooden house-building based on plantation-grown timber. Over time this crystallised into my HBF (Home Building Factory) concept. I’ve worked with equipment and technology for wood processing and timber housing, developed industrial and investment projects, and built financial models and business plans that tie technology to economics and market demand.
Around 2012 I deliberately moved into salaried management and expert roles connected with large industrial projects, where you inevitably had to deal with government and big companies. The reason was simple: in that environment it was often the only way to push serious industrial projects forward. But even in those positions my focus remained the same – to keep developing the HBF line and everything around it.
In 2015–2016 I tried to implement an HBF-style project via a joint venture in Malaysia. We built a financial model and a plant plan and got reasonably far, but the partnership failed and we couldn’t monetise and scale it. After that it became increasingly clear that launching a scalable industrial business in my home jurisdiction would be extremely difficult.
Today my goal is straightforward: to finally execute HBF as a real Fastlane business in a jurisdiction where it can scale, and to use that as a base for myself and my core team to relocate and build from there. I’m not looking for a “stable position” or a career in politics or corporate structures. I want to build a system that turns low-value timber into high-value housing and can be replicated from country to country.
I joined this forum because I want to be around entrepreneurs who think in terms of systems, scale and ownership – people who are interested in growing a real “money tree” instead of just another job. I’m looking to learn from people who have already built and scaled manufacturing, construction or franchise-type businesses, and eventually to find partners, investors and operators who see the potential in modular timber house-building based on plantation-grown resources.
In return, I can offer experience in industrial project planning, financial modelling (IRR, NPV, CAPEX/OPEX), structuring large industrial projects, and a lot of hard-earned lessons from trying to build something real in a very unfriendly environment.
