Help with moving idea along

So I have been reading Millionaire Fast lane and I'm almost finished. I've really enjoyed reading it.

I have been a Cosmetologist since 2002. Over the years I've had one major complaint that customers have brought to my attention regarding their hair, and recently in the last 6 months I've had several women with this complaint come to me. I believe I have a solution to this problem but it will require research and possibly clinical trials and my problem is I don't know where to even start or even how to finance this. I appreciate all suggestions.
