Just introducing myself, if anyone feels like reading, also a few housekeeping questions at the end.
So, here goes. I am from Melbourne, Australia. 25 years old, male, nearly finished a masters degree and haven't really done anything in terms of wealth building yet. well, that is kind of a lie, I have attempted some stuff but nothing that has gotten me to the place I want to be.
I have just finished reading MJ's book (actually about 2/3 of the way through but I couldn't wait to start posting
). This forum is exactly what Ive been looking for; a place to chat and discuss attitudes towards wealth creation.
I am often get branded as an overachiever by my friends, and creating wealth is simply the next challenge that I have decided to face. I am quite motivated, positive and fully believe that I can do it. I have actually set myself the goal of being worth over $1 million by the time Im 30. That is why MJ's book resonated with me so much, because it was about attitudes rather than a foolproof method that is sold in so many other books (if its that easy why doesnt everyone do it?).
Where am I at?
Hmm, I guess can comfortably say that I have tried to make money in entrepreneurial ways, as well as having a few traditional part time jobs over the years, but have never really found anything to propel me to the next level. I have tried several little business ideas that I wont go into (including a hilarious situation where I nearly got expelled in 10th grade for undercutting the school cafeteria on coke).
The most recent attempt was a cafe (coffee shop) I started with my dad. That was the biggest mistake, going into business with family. My dad has a construction firm that makes 10 times the amount that the cafe could ever make so he has preconceived ideas on how to go about business. This means that I wasn't free to find my own way, and the biggest problem I saw was that he spends too much time and energy on things that can be done by someone else. He expected the same of me in the cafe, and we were forced to work 80 hours per week between us. this was at the same time as me completing a higher degree at university (I wasnt putting 80 hours into the cafe personally, but I was working for close to 80 hours between university and business for over a year). The cafe hasnt failed yet per se. But we have scaled down our time input only because neither one of us has enough of it and we will see what happens in the next couple months. I still believe it can make some money but not enough. Plus now I have time to think about other things.
It probably was unsuccessful more due to our disagreements than any inherent flaw. I personally never would have gone into hospitality if my dad hadnt insisted on starting a "safe, traditional business" - ie. no fancy, original, entrepreneurial ideas.
Otherwise, I am still at university in my final year. I will finish it but mostly due to enjoyment of learning rather that think it will get me where I want to be, plus its nice to have a safety net. I spent the past 3-5 years going out 5 nights a week chasing girls and getting fit. I now have an amazing girlfriend and am very healthy/fit. considering that I was fat and under confident in high school, this is quite a change. It has taught me that anything is within reach with the right attitude. Including wealth.

Can I change my use name somewhere?
Is it safe to post business ideas on here? as in, will anyone steal them? I mean, I haven't really come up with anything ground breaking yet, but I was wondering if it is something that I am seriously considering is it likely to be utilized by someone else?
