Hi folks.
In exactly one month, I am going to graduate high school, once and for all. I am not going to college so I can pursue my entrepreneurial dreams. As far as my dad is concerned, I am taking a "gap" year, which he doesn't like, as he thinks I am going to waste a year. I am currently working a part time job, which I plan on quitting once I graduate, and I will have about $2,500 saved up when I graduate.
My dad always told me to go to college, get a job, make "good" money, like almost everyone else, which is literally what I dread. He wants me to get a degree in IT, because it's what everyone is doing, and it's supposedly "working" for them. But, it's not what I want. My older brother who's now 21 and on his 3rd "gap" year, has wasted 3 years doing jack, thinking he will get rich, and my dad feels I will end up just like him, working overnight shifts, being miserable and such. It is a possibility, and something I fear could happen, but I believe in myself, I have before, and it paid off.
My father doesn't care how I do it, as long as I make money, he's happy, but of course, he doesn't think that I am focused enough to make it happen (on my own). He works in a business that he dreads, but it pays the bills. Almost every day, I see the stress it causes him. It is my dream, not to get "rich", but rather to retire him. I can't stand seeing him working at this old age, and it gives me a deep desire to help him out, in my own way, which most likely won't be possible with a college degree, unless I sacrifice 4+ years to get a degree, in which he will still be working.
I am working as a Web Designer, learning through Fox's Legends course. I still haven't learned all the technical skills, but I have already spent months going through this course. and I am slowly progressing. I still have a lot to learn, but I will make it happen.
I am making this post to share my journey, and see what others have to say, thanks for reading!
