Hey guys, aspiring copywriter here. Over the past couple of months, I've read several of the classic books on advertising and hand-copied dozens of ads from the greats like Halbert, Sugarman, and Schwartz. But now, it's time to step away from the pure study and start writing copy for actual clients. I've been researching how to do this lately. (And as a caveat, writing copy for others is not my fastlane plan).
One way I've seen recommend for brand-new copywriters to get some work under their belt is to find poorly-written ads and then give them an overhaul. A thread I found in another forum specifically mentions going to Clickbank and looking for copy weaklings to improve. That's what I'm trying now.
Has anyone scored clients this way? If you're an active copywriter, how did you find your first client?
