So you can see one guy took offense. Another guy agreed with him.
But a few more positive comments and 2 people who called me and signed up for an interview. (both had prior experience and their own equipment. For the second guy, I told him starting with his mower was just a starting step, and eventually we'd provide a mower etc).
My desired onboarding strategy for new techs:
- Tech must provide his own mower and transport.
- We can provide trimmer, blower and pay a maintenance/replacement stipend.
- After the tech proves themselves we'll ship company equipment.
Based on this where would you guys put the hourly rate? I was thinking $19/hr plus $3/hr maintenance stipend. The comments made me think we may need to be at $22 + $3 but I wanted to ask you guys since they could just be upset for whatever reason; lot of mixed signals so far.

Trying to hire "employees" but really looking for subcontractors at a joke of a rate.

This has gotta be a joke. You're hiring people to mow, but want them to provide equipment, and job site transportation?
You're smoking that good shit

Tyler Bullard yeah, I'v been working for the same guy I have been for the last 17 years, I make salary (averaging $24.50/hr), use his truck and equipment, and get every other week off in slow season (nov-april) and still get paid.....along with Christmas and birthday bonuses and % cut of the big landscape jobs we do on the side as extra work. This sounds like a subcontracting company that just overcharges people and takes part of the pay for finding you the work as that they sit behind a desk collecting money while you're stuck paying for gas, equipment, insurance, vehicle wear and tear, equipment repairs and no benefits. Might as well run your own company at that point and make 100% of the profit rather than let these assholes take your hard earned money.

Tyler Bullard yeah, EXACTLY

Mike Bellow seems like some douche bag trying to get people to run a business for him while he collects the real profits tbh.
