Y'all are funny. Alls y'all!
My #1 is red wine. I like most all reds. But kinda jonesin' for the Meritage styles right now. For value (read, "daily wine") I like Ménage à Trois. BUT, note to self: Don't Google this again from your client's server. They may get the wrong idea! Can't beat South African and South American reds for value right now.
My #2 is Vodka. For value, I prefer Texas-made Tito's. Beats the heck out of any phoo-phoo, pretty bottled "status" vodkas. Trust me on this one. Do a blind taste test. I usually just do the predicatable Cosmo thing while waiting for a table at my favorite restaurant. But works with Bloody Mary's when I'm in the mood for a nutritious (think "vegetable group"!) libation, or a chocolate martini when I'm out with my girls, doing the silly thing. And then occasionally, when I'm just doing the quick "effect" beverage (but wanna keep the calories low) - which rarely happens, frankly . . . but anyway, plain ol' Vodka/SODA. That's right. I prefer Tonic. But Soda, with one packet of Splenda tastes EXACTLY the same, with 1/3 the calories.
My #3 is probably Limoncello, which is a wonderful digestiv from Southern Italy. It is a STRONG, sweet (a lot like me, actually!) after-dinner drink, made from the zest of Sorrento lemons and pure grain alcohol, served ICE-cold, from a tiny sipping glass (which may look to some of you like a shot glass!) My husband (Bobo) and I make 2 or 3 batches per year, from scratch, using the family recipe of one of our previous suppliers from the Salerno region of Italy. If anyone would like to try a bottle (which, if you look closely, you can see our custom private label I threw together for a fun hostess-gift project one evening), send me an IM and I'd be happy to send you some. Warning: It is NOT as innocuous as it tastes! SIP with caution. Salute!
Finally, whatever is occasion-appropriate. In other words, if we're dining on Tex-Mex, then 'Ritas of course. Cuban food? Mojitos. Derby Day? Mint Juleps (with three varieties of fresh mint from our garden, of course, served over hand-crushed ice chips in frozen sterling silver cups!)
Cheers!
